Hey everyone! Before I start this chapter I just wanted to let you guys know that there probably won't be any updates this upcoming week. I try to update weekly, but I live in Florida and we are expected to be hit by Hurricane Irma in the area I live in pretty soon. Hopefully it doesn't do to much damage, but I know I won't be able to access Wi-Fi for a couple days after it hits, but I promise I will try to update again when I'm able. Thank you all for reading and please keep Florida in your prayers as we deal with this hurricane.
Liliana's pov
"Oh my God. It is so perfect and beautiful out here" I smile looking out at the ocean. Derek is flying back out to D.C. today, but he wanted to go for a ferry boat ride this morning before he catches his flight out and he asked me to come with him, which I agreed to since I don't have to be to work really early today and I wanted to see him before he flies out to D.C. I know he isn't going to be gone long, but I still wanted to spend some time with him before he leaves.
"I know. It's always so peaceful out here, but especially on days like this. When the weather is just perfect. This actually may be the most perfect ferryboat ride I've had in my life. We have to do this a lot more when I get back. You, me, Meredith and the family. We're just going to take a day and ride the ferryboats. All day if we want" he smiles
"That sounds perfect. I can't wait" I smile
"Me either. You know what else I can't wait for? The holidays this year. After being away for so long I really want them to be special. I want to go all out and cook a big holiday dinner and invite everyone over, especially for Christmas. That's the kids favorite holiday" he says
"Well I am normally not a holiday person, but in honor of my best friend being back permanently I am 100% in support of going all out this year. It's going to be nice" I say
"It will be, especially for you since it looks like you and Avery will be back together" he smiles
"Hopefully. I mean nothing is set in stone we've still got a lot to figure out, but at least we're trying to get through our problems instead of completely giving up on our marriage" I say
"That's a good thing. That means there's still hope" he says
"Yeah, it does and even though things aren't perfect I can't help, but to be happy since you're about to be back in town for good. No more flying back and forth to D.C., you're just going to be here and you don't know how happy that makes me" I smile
"I'm happy about it too. I can't wait to be home full time" he says
"I know" I smile. "Derek, do you ever get the feeling that something is going to happen, but you're not exactly sure what" I ask
"Yeah, why" he asks
"Nothing, it's just I've been getting that feeling all morning, like something big is going to happen, but I have no idea what" I sigh
"Yeah, I feel like that at times, but it always passes. It'll pass" he assures me
"Okay" I sigh, before we stand in a comfortable silence taking in the beauty of the ocean
"What are you thinking about? You look like there's something on your mind" he says
"I was just thinking about this saying that my mom used to say. She used to tell me, "People make plans, God laughs." I never really thought much about that saying until I got older and realized how true it is. I mean we plan our lives out, but we don't know what twists and turns are coming our way. I bet a year ago neither one of us would think that we would be exactly where we are now, but we are. And even though there are a lot of things from the past, especially the past year, that I would change, I realize that uncertainty is just part of life, but that as long as I have such a great best friend here for me I'll be okay" I say
