It was midday on Friday, Diego pulled up in his truck to Mila's home. He parked on the side of the road outside her house and got out the car. He got out of the truck and walked around it so he could go to the front door. Diego had his keys jiggling in his hand as he walked.
Diego rang the doorbell and waited patiently for Mila to answer. He was taking her out on a date to a Hispanic restaurant that they both loved to go to, but never went together. When the door swung open, Diego was expecting to be met by Mila's brown eyes, but instead was met by her mother.
"Hello, ma'am." Diego smiled. "Is Mila ready?"
Mila's mother, Jackie, looked him up and down before turning to face the inside of the house.
"Mila! Diego's here!"
Nearly instantly, Diego saw Mila coming running downstairs with her purse in her hand. She slid past her mom and tried to run off as she grabbed Diego's wrist, but was stopped when she heard yelling for her to come back.
"Mila! ¿A dónde vas? ¿Quién es este muchacho?"
(Where are you going? Who is this boy?)Diego turned around and saw an older Cuban man walking up to the doorway. Diego than saw a middle aged man walk up beside him and give Mila the same look the older man was giving her. Confusion on what was happening and shock on why she thought she could just run out the house with Diego.
"Papá, abuelo, este es Diego. Él es mi novio." Mila introduced.
(Dad, Grandpa, this is Diego. He is my boyfriend.)Diego smiled has he held his hand out. "Hola. Encantado de conocerte."
(Hello. Nice to meet you.)Neither one of them shook his hand, so Diego brought it back. The two men looked between them before walking back inside the house. Mila quickly turned to Diego and gave him a soft smile before Diego lead her to the truck. He opened the door for her and helped her in before closing the door, getting in on his side, and driving off.
"Your family is close I see." Diego smirked.
Mila nodded with a giggle. "Oh yeah. Tried to get out as fast as I could but, they're just protective of me. Don't want me to just be dating just anyone. Wants to be someone they approve of."
"Am I that guy?" Diego asked, looking at her than back to the road.
Mila smiled softly. "I believe you are."
Diego smirked. "Thank you. I think so too."

That evening, Clover was sitting in her bedroom at home as she held her nephew in her hands. Her sister was helping her get ready and get dressed for dinner. Clover was sitting in a dark green long sleeve skater dress with her hair up in a bun on the top of her head. Her sister, Destiny, finally walked back over to her and kneeled down to put on a pair of heeled sneakers on Clover's feet. The only jewelry she had on was a pair of stud earrings and her promise ring on her right ring finger.
Clover stood up and thanked Destiny before handing over the baby that was sleeping in her arms. Clover walked out of their shared bedroom and down the short hallway to meet her mom that was dressed in a long sundress with her hair curled perfectly and her makeup done to perfection.
"You trying to win back dad?" Clover smirked, grabbing her phone off the counter.
Her mom, Trinity, smiled at her daughter. "I'm not worried about your father. I'm trying to look good. Come on, if we're going to this dinner, than we have to leave now."
