Late Tuesday night, all of the players were growing more and more tired. None of them had energy anymore and they were starting to even grow sick from being in such close corners of each other. Mateo knew there was nothing he could do about them getting sick, so he got use to the new familiar sounds of the teenagers sniffling in their sleep, some waking up from coughing, and them blowing their noses in the bathroom.
Mateo made his final round around the rooms and the hallways connecting them together and saw all of the players were sleeping, a few were wheezing from their stuffed noses, but they were all sleeping. Once he finished, Mateo went back into his fake office. He headed towards the small tv that was on one of the desk that he used to watch football tapes and to watch news stories. He had brought it up from downstairs since he knew they'd need it. Mateo turned on the news and sat as he listened to the broadcast.
"And better news for Dallas tonight, the water floods are going down. By Wednesday, all the water should surpass and the roads will be clear again from the local lakes over flowing from the heavy storms that lasted hours. Sadly, homes and lands may have been destroyed by the water but hopefully nothing too bad. Thank you and goodnight from the 11 o'clock news."
Mateo sighed to himself as he turned off the tv and walked towards his desk. Right when he was about to sit down, he heard his cell phone ringing from its spot on the corner of the desk. Mateo frowned as he walked over and saw it was his ex "wife" calling. He chuckled before hitting the answer button and brought the phone to his ear.
"Its late, Kiara."
Mateo heard her groan on the other line and he could tell she rolled her eyes. "Is my little girl alright?"
"She was alright the last seven times you called. Yeah, she's fine. She's sleeping. Why?"
"Cause that's my daughter, our daughter. I mean, I may hate you but I'm glad she's with you. I don't think I'd know what to do in a situation like this." Kiara admitted. "But don't tell anyone I said that. If you say a word I'll deny it."
Mateo chuckled. "You're one of those people who never change."
"And you're one of those people who never shut up." Kiara fought back. "You should take Manny to the doctor as soon as you can. Make sure the baby's okay."
Mateo sighed as he sat down in his desk chair. "Yeah. I'll do that. Still can't believe I'm going to be a grandparent at 36."
"Who you telling?" Kiara gasped, laughing. "People think I'm Manny's older sister and now I'm suppose to be a grandmother? I'm not even 40 yet. We're so young. She's so young."
"Yeah I know. But I gotta go to sleep so I can try and figure out what we're gonna do in the morning. I'll talk to you later."
"Alright. Love you." Kiara spoke quickly.
Mateo smiled widely as he heard her wait on the other side of the phone call. "Love you too."
~**~
Wednesday morning came rolling around and Mateo was instantly woken up from his spot hunched over on his desk to the sounds of the players yelling and shouting. Mateo slowly woke up but quickly got up when he heard them continuously yelling. He ran into the larger room to see them all trying to look outside.
