Friday afternoon, Mila was sitting with her feet up on Diego's dashboard. She was laughing as Diego sang along loudly to the music playing through the speakers. They were both driving to the front parking lot of the school since both the football players and the cheerleaders had a mandatory meeting today. They knew it was to help repair both the school and the athletic building, while also getting the football team new gear, uniforms, and other essentials they needed.
When they arrived, Diego just pulled into a spot next to Ethan's car where he saw Ethan letting Stephen out of the car. Diego got out his truck before helping Mila get out in her long pink sundress. Diego smiled to Ethan and nodded his head to Stephen as him and Mila walked to the crowd of teenagers gathered around Mateo and the cheerleading coach Michelle.
Diego stood with the football players before Mateo called for them to take a knee. He got down on one knee with the rest of the football players since there were so many of them. Diego looked next to him at Ethan who looked like he was feeling out of place with his teammates.
"Got your spot back?" Diego whispered to him.
Ethan chuckled nervously as he looked down at the gravel. "Kinda." He spoke. "Mateo wants to see if I can make it or not. He says I may be recovering, but he admired my persistence to keep the spot. I guess being annoying got me something for once."
Diego chuckled as he clapped a hand on Ethan's back. "Good luck. Just stay clean."
"Have no choice. I had to take a drug test this morning." Ethan admitted.
Diego didn't get the chance to reply before Mateo was starting his speech that he called them for. "Alright, so as you know half of Dallas flooded this week. Now, during that flood our locker rooms and parts of our school was wrecked. All of you may be wondering what we're gonna do about that and how we're going to fix that. Me and Michelle here have talked it out and came up with an idea for multiple fundraisers, since we need to raise over $10,000 to fix all this damage."
"You guys don't have insurance?" Jose wondered. "Isn't that what they're for."
Mateo glanced at him for a moment before taking a deep breath since he knew that this was going to be a long process to getting this team back together. "They only gave us $40,000 for $50,000 worth of damage."
"So!" Michelle spoke cheerfully. "We need ideas for fundraisers. All of you are going to have to participate. Does anyone have an ideas?"
"How about a bake sale?" Jessica asked, smiling. Her smile faded when all the football players groaned loudly.
"Hey!" Stephen yelled at his friends. "She's trying to help."
Jacob just shook his head as he sat down fully since his knee was starting to hurt. "We can go with a bake sale."
"Alright what else?" Mateo said out loud. "You're all so opinionated when I don't ask for it but suddenly you're all quiet."
The moment the words left his lips, Mateo just heard all the football player shout out request before argument with each other about their ideas. After catching a few of their ideas, Mateo looked over to Manny who was laughing at them. He grabbed his whistle from her and blew it making all the players fall quiet.
"All I heard was a car wash, dunk tank, eating challenge, pelt a player with water balloons, and the guessing game jar." Mateo said. "We'll go with those and the bake sale. Manny write that down."
Manny nodded as she went on her phone and made a note of the activities they were going to do.
"How about we have people pay for one of them to shave their heads. Maybe one of the football players." Mila called out. "If they get the money they want, they shave off all their hair?"
