Sunday morning, a still one throughout. Not many people were doing much, some opting to stay in a relax. The sky was cloudy and there was no breeze to shake the leaves on the trees. The weather was neutral and the only action was where two football players were, waiting to hear their fate. In a hospital.
Clover was sitting in a waiting room with her mom next to her reading a magazine. Clover's mom Trinity glanced up from the gossip magazine to see her daughter staring down blankly at the ground. She didn't want to say anything since she knew no matter what she said, nothing was going to change how she felt.
Clover jolted up when she heard the nurse call her name. Trinity followed behind her daughter as they went through a few hallways until they got to an examination room. She let Clover speak for herself as she told the doctor what she felt and where the pain was. An unbearable and sharp pain in her lower back when she left practice or took to many tackles.
"Have you been trying to ease the pain?" The doctor wondered.
Clover nodded as she rubbed her lower back. "Yeah. After the first bad tackle I'd ice it with ice packs and than from then on I'd use heat or ice packs after practice."
"You may have damaged the nerves in your back." The doctor spoke honestly. "How long have you been playing?"
"I've been the starter for four years now." Clover answered nervously. "But I've been playing every year since I was six."
The doctor nodded as he went into a cabinet in the room and pulled out a hospital gown for her to put on. "Your body may be catching up with you. I've had many athletes come in here with the same symptoms and sometimes it's just time to slow down. Do you have any metal in your body? Metal plates?"
"No." Clover whispered, taking the hospital gown when he handed it to her.
The doctor nodded as he went into the computer and started typing. "If it's no problem with you, I'd like to do an MRI on you. I'm worried you have a damaged spinal disk in your back from playing so much. I don't want you to have a herniated disk pushing on your nerves, because that'll cause permanent damage. How long have you been playing with this injury?"
"A month." She whispered, realizing that this was serious now. "I have practice six days a week usually."
The doctor didn't reply or show any facial expressions as he kept typing. Once he finished he stood to his feet and held his hand out to help her down off the exam table. Clover took it and jumped down.
"Change into the gown and I'll have you get an MRI and an X-Ray." The doctor explained. "Take out all metal you have on you. Piercings, everything. The nurse will come get you when we're ready."
Clover nodded slowly as she watched him walk out. The moment the door close, she brought the gown up to her face and started to cry. Quickly, seeing her daughter cry, Trinity got up and consoled her.
"It's okay." She whispered. "You're gonna be okay. You're gonna be just fine, I swear."
Clover held onto her mom's shirt as she continued to cry. After about two minutes of crying and knowing what these test could show, Clover pulled away and started to change into the gown.
10 minutes had gone past before Trinity was standing with a lab tech watching her daughter get an MRI done. She tried to read what the scans were showing on the computer since she was a nurse herself, but she couldn't understand it fully. Trinity just looked back up and watched a nurse help Clover out of the MRI machine and into the next room for an X-ray. Trinity carried her purse in her hand as she followed them, she stood outside the room and looked in through the window in the wall as the nurse helped Clover lay down on her stomach so they could X-ray her back.
