Zayn's P.O.V

Since the concert a week ago, Y/N was all I could think about. We had only stopped texting to sleep, and it was dreadful having to wait a week to see her again. But today was date day. I had spent an hour getting ready, and I was on my way out the door. Y/N and I were going to go the simple route and go to dinner. It gave me a good chance to get to know her. As I waited at the door to her flat, my palms were sweaty. It took me a good few minutes to muster up the courage to knock, and when I did it was so light I wasn't even sure she heard it. Luckily, the door swung open and there she was. She was in a pencil skirt and blouse, and she took my breath away. "Hello Mr Malik" she smiled, and I felt myself blush. I was never really nervous or anxious with girls, but she was already very special to me. "Hello love, how are you?" I asked. "Good, good. Do you want to come in or just get going?" she asked, and I stepped back. "Well, reservation is at 7:30 so we should probably get going" I said, and she smiled and nodded. I had made dinner reservations at Butlers Wharf Chop House the night I met her, and that's where we were headed now. I kept glancing over at her as I drove, still sort of in awe of her beauty. It was evident we were both pretty nervous, and there wasn't much conversation on the car ride there. We went in and were seated. After ordering a bottle of wine, I smiled at her. "I am really happy to be here tonight" I said, and she smiled. "Me too, it felt like you were away a month strangely enough" she laughed. "I know, it doesn't feel like this is our first date and we've only known each other a week" I said, and we both smiled at each other as the waitress set the bottle down. As I poured us each a glass, our orders were taken and the waitress left. "This place is really really nice" Y/N said, and I looked around. "Busy though" I whispered, and she nodded glancing over at a table of eavesdroppers at the other table. I laughed lightly and she smiled. I felt her rub her leg against mine under the table. I wasn't sure if she was aware of what she was doing, but I liked feeling that physical connection with her. Any connection with Y/N was a good connection. We talked lightly over dinner, and I paid and we left. Surprisingly, despite my feelings towards her, the date seemed lack luster. I hoped she had felt good enough about me from the last week, because I wasn't doing anything remotely memorable tonight. If I lost out on her because of this, I would be miserable. Then I got an idea, jerking the steering wheel and making a hard left. "Where are we going?" she asked, her face both excited and surprised. It seemed like she was longing for more time to make this day memorable. I drove for a few minutes and parked facing the river. "I feel like we barely talked" I admitted. She must have sensed the panic in my voice, because she smiled warmly and took my hand. "I had fun, but I am happy to sit here with you. Tell me your earliest childhood memory?" she said, and so began a four hour chat. At 1:12 am, Y/N and I both yawned simultaneously and laughed. "I should take you home" I said, sadly, and she nodded slowly. I drove the long way, trying to continue our conversation. I kept slowing down so I could hit red lights, just so I could look at her. Her face was so beautiful, though after the long time spent her makeup had started to fade. She looked too good to be real. Too beautiful to be sitting across from me. While I knew, deep down, she was a normal girl, she was incredible at the same time. Maybe her normalcy added to her beauty. Her innocence. Her positive and bubbly outlook. Before I knew it, we were back at her flat. "Well, Zayn, I had a lot of fun" she smiled, and I smiled back. "Maybe next time, we can skip the dinner and just talk... if you want there to be-" I started and she put her hand up. "I definitely 100% absolutely want their to be a next time" she laughed, and I smiled as my cheeks went red. "Alright, I'm going to head in. My doorman is already going to want to talk my ear off. See you Zayn" she said, and she leaned forward for a hug. I kissed her cheek and we both lingered, not wanting to let go. Eventually we pulled apart, and she smiled. "See you later, boo" I whispered, and she waved and walked away. I had a feeling the nervous butterflies I was feeling as I drove down the road would last until I saw her next time.
