sometimes i wonder
if humans were chairs
would the leather chairs
and wooden chairs
and miniature rocking-horse chairs
get along?
would the light couches fight with the dark ones,
would the old ones scoff at the new purchases,
would the chair miles from it all post their opinions on a chair social media account?
would the benches in the world be persecuted,
along with the bar stools and beanbag chairs?
who would live in luxury,
who would live in poverty,
which chairs of this and that would be stuck in a middle-class life crisis?
would the teenage chairs be worried about their appearance?
would some of them stuff extra cushioning in their cushions to fit in,
and would others want to deflate?
would leather chairs be talked about behind their backs if they wanted to be like the golden chair they saw last week,
and would the golden chair who wishes to be merely of wood be treated the same way?
would any chair get along,
or would it all be left to chance?
if humans were chairs
would the world be all that different?
