he's never been the best, there's others for that
unwilling to take their place, settling for second
add that to his list of flaws, secretly to his virtues
pros and cons never really seemed right with him
a diamond in the rough, people use that phrase
but he is so much more and so much less than that
among other gemstones that are more precious
rubies, sapphires, a magnified talent, to be vibrant
he is well known instead for his many facets
as a diamond would be, he is clear yet a mystery
the colour of carbon never looked so frustrating
flush against his skin is a smile, simultaneously
a look better described without words, painful
to a writer like me he is more than an enigma
he is clarity in a world full of fogged-up windows
plastic wrap clouded by itself, hanging on tight
humming arbitrary melodies of tossed salad
it's possible that he's just messing with everyone
but you wonder if he's merely just as he seems
a boy of doorways, infinite possibilities up ahead
that chooses to stay here, janus as the people,
smitten by duplicity, animating words on a whim
an man of many trades, a puzzle being one
he chews and chews and chews on their thoughts
before folding them up, corner by corner
discarding them in the trash can
he walks out into the world
shining brightly
unmeasurably
precious.
thank you for 8k.
