Hey! I'm loving this story so far and I hope you do too!
Updates for this story will now be on Wednesdays and Saturdays!

(y/n)'s POV
Thursday.
I limped into school, because of course I hurt myself somehow. I had rolled my ankle trying to go down the stairs with a box of old clothes my mum had reminded me to donate. She was coming home in about 3 weeks from her fancy business trip and I was excited, but I also loved living by myself. But the point of the story was that I was in extreme pain when I walked. The immediate care people said it wasn't a sprain, but I should ice it and try not to use it too often.
But here I was.
I winced and set my backpack down, pulling books down while trying to balance on my left foot. I should really go down to the nurse and get a pass to leave class early. Maybe that would make my life easier.
"Hey (y/n). How are you this fine morning?" Dan asked as he approached.
"Dandy." I lied. I tried not to cry out in pain as I lugged my backpack over my shoulder.
"Love, what's wrong?" Dan asked, holding out his hand to steady a wobbling me.
There's something I'll never really get used to. Dan being... nice...
"I rolled my ankle yesterday." I complained, starting to hobble along to my first class.
"Woah, slow down. Let me carry your backpack for you." Dan said, sliding it off my shoulders. He pulled it around one shoulder with ease and held out his hand.
"What?" I asked.
"I don't want you to fall." Dan said, gesturing to his hand. I took it and I hobbled along slightly behind him.
"Thank you." I said, quietly.
"You're welcome." He smiled back at me. I felt weird. Kind of wrong.
Did I miss mean Dan?
No, that's crazy.
He set my backpack on the floor next to my desk and I smiled at him, letting go of his hand. People were definitely staring at us and I'm not surprised. I hadn't even told Phil that Dan and I were 'friends' now.
Shiz.
Math was relatively normal, just a little more peaceful, but it was English I was worried about. I reached for my backpack, but Dan stopped me. I took his outstretched hand with a blush on my face and we walked to English.
"You know you don't have to carry my backpack right?"
"I know, but I want to." He said, smiling. I hobbled after him into the classroom to see Phil and Zoe already there.
"Hey (y/--" Zoe stopped her eyes shifting down at my ankle. "My lord, you are too accident prone." she said, taking my backpack from Dan.
"I know, thank you Dan." I thanked again.
"No problem, love." he replied, sitting down across from Zoe. Phil's head whipped to me then back to Dan.
"What?"
"You're not going to say anything?" Phil asked, examining my face.
"Nope. We're best friends now." Dan replied.
"Let's not go that far, but I guess." I said. Phil and Zoe just watched as I sat down. The teacher called for partners and Zoe called me before anyone else could. We separated and Zoe yanked my arm so I leaned closer to her, across the desks.
"What the actual fuck was that hand holding?!" she asked. The teacher gave us a look and Zoe let go of my arm, but kept a stern look on me.
"What? He didn't want me to fall! I'm injured you know." I said.
"You're falling for him aren't you? He's going to break you're heart even worse than he already has." Zoe said. I glanced over at him and Phil. They were deep in discussion.
"Sadly, I think I am." I said, pressing my lips together and giving Zoe a sad smile.
"Oh lord. Just, stay sane for me. Don't let him get to you." she said. I nodded and we started on our worksheet.
Dan's POV
"The hand holding?" Phil asked and I sighed.
"She was injured. I just provided balance." I said. Phil gave me a skeptical look and I groaned. "Okay so I wanted to also, but that doesn't matter."
"I swear Daniel. I will break you if you so much as hurt her ever again. You've already done a lot. I'm surprised either of us were willing to give you a shot, but I could tell how much you liked her before you even knew." Phil said. (y/n) glanced over at us with a sad look in her eyes. She said something and looked down. Zoe responded and her face fell even more.
"What are they talking about?" I whispered.
"I don't know, but Zoe's a pretty intense person when it comes to friends so I would try to get on her good side." Phil said. I sighed and nodded, starting on the worksheet.
(y/n)'s POV
Zoe, whose next class was closer to mine than Dan's took my backpack. We stopped at her locker and she pulled a couple things out, chattering about something. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Dan's tall figure surrounded by 3 girls. I glanced over to see a girl named Grace (random name btw) and her 2 friends near him. I turned a bit more to get a better view and noticed her manicured hand on his arm. She had an evil smirk on her face, inching closer and closer to him. I started to feel sick and urged Zoe to hurry up, unable to pry my eyes away from them. She was practically on him, backing him up against the lockers. He wasn't doing anything. Zoe glanced over at what I was looking at and scowled.
"What did I say? Love, you can't let him rule over you!" she said. It wasn't snarky, but genuine and I knew she was right. I was on the verge of passing out I felt so sick. I was shaking slightly. Of course he had girls who wanted him. Why wouldn't he? I don't know why I had started to fall for him anyway. He said he wanted to be friends. I should have expected it. I just thought...
No.
He glanced over at me and we made eye contact. I faked a smile and waved at him. Zoe pulled me away and I limped after her, wincing in pain.
It's just...
My ankle doesn't even hurt that bad anymore.
Wow. Why did we think Dan could last? Or is Grace just a bitch? (spoiler: she is)
Yup.
I hope you enjoyed and stay awesome!
