(Y/n)'s POV
I placed my books on my desk and pulled out my assignment. This may be an screen writing school, but I still had to finish high school.
I started doing my Math homework when Emma came in and called me for dinner. Emma and Amy were there along with a boy I had never met named Heath. He was nice enough and good company, but I was practically doing math equations in my head rather than focusing on conversation.
It was Friday, a few weeks after I had arrived and gotten situated in my classes. Emma and Amy had been really accommodating to me and so had the teachers. I was really starting to fit in.
"Hey (y/n)?" I glanced up at the mention of my name. "Want to come to a party with us later?"
"Oh, sure," I replied. I still had 2 days for homework, no need to overreact right now. Once we finished dinner, I tidied up my work space, but left my math open for whenever I returned and put on some nicer clothes. They said it was casual so I decided on jeans and a sweater and followed them down the hall.
There was a pumping party going on and Amy slipped a bottle out of her purse as Heath knocked on the door. I glanced over and saw a frown of concern on Emma's face too. A guy opened the door, spotted the bottle and let us in. Inside people were dancing and yelling which surprised me. Weren't there people here to keep them in line? Emma grasped my hand and pulled me to a corner and started dancing with me.
"I don't like the looks of this party, maybe we should go."
"We can give it a few minutes, don't worry," I said. "Should we get Heath and Amy if we leave?"
"No, we wouldn't be able to get them to leave anyways. I made sure to slip a condom in her pants pocket," she said.
"Oh my God really?"
"Well better safe than sorry," she said. "If I'm not getting them out, I can at least make sure she's good."
"I guess that's smart," I said and a loud crash came from the flat.
"Okay, yeah let's go," she said and pulled me out of the room and into the hall. "Want to go to the dorm or walk around town a bit?"
"We can walk around, I still need to get to know you more," I said. We ended up walking around for hours, not knowing what we were doing and ended us coming back at 1 in the morning.
She collapsed in her bed as did I. I woke up the next morning and Emma was gone, so I grabbed a granola bar and started with my homework again. I might as well get it done. Once I was finished, I decided I would go to a movie, just by myself for a while.
I stepped outside and got catcalled which I had gotten used to. I walked for a while until I found a theater and bought a ticket to see a movie. The worker seemed surprised to see me by myself, in sort of a judging way. I just shrugged him off and got some popcorn. Popcorn was immensely different than the type back home, but was delicious nonetheless. The movie was nice, but I soon realized that I didn't quite like being alone like that. It wasn't as nice as it used to be.
After the movie, I stopped for coffee and enjoyed that, heading back to my dorm. Once I arrived I collapsed on the bed and pulled out my phone. My heart sank once I saw all the messages and calls I had missed the past few days.
Hey, how's school going?
(Y/n)?
We all miss you!
Please answer
4 missed calls from Phil
Hey, just needed someone to talk to. Joe's not doing great, he really wants to talk to you.
How's New York?
(Y/n)?
3 missed calls from Zoe
What really surprised me was a long text from my mom.
Hey sweetheart, missing you! I hope everything in New York is well and that you're having fun. Phil and Zoe have checked up on me twice already, your friends are great, don't you forget that. I do have to mention that Dan visited yesterday, and he asked to see you before you left. I unfortunately had to tell him you had been gone all this time and he seemed a little upset. He told me never mind. I don't know if he called you or texted you, but I would answer. I hope you're safe and I'll talk to you soon. I love you.
Dan wanted to talk to me?
I frantically searched through every piece of technology or app he could connect with me through, but there was nothing to be found.
No DM on Instagram, no video of YouTube, no text, no voicemail or call.
There was nothing.
Did he even want to say something to me? Tell me off? Say goodbye? He was the one who told me to not speak to him, why was he doing this now.
In the spur of the moment, I face timed him, hoping and praying that he'd pick up. It dialed and the call ended, the call rejected.
He rejected my call.
I felt a wave of sadness overcome me as I answered all of the texts, my brain filled with static.
And so it begins.
Stay awesome!
