(y/n)'s POV
I ran a hand through my freshly combed hair, glancing at the wig on it's stand beside me. I really hated that thing. I set it in it's box which went into my bag. I glanced around the dressing room for my shirt only to find it was gone. I zipped up the garment bag in which the costume was stored, still glancing around.
"Hey (y/n) you rea--" Dan stopped in the doorway, staring at me.
"Hey." I said, awkwardly. "I, uh, can't find my shirt." I said, my face flushing.
"You mean that one?" he asked, pointing to my shirt, draped over a railing.
"Heh, yeah." I said, slipping it on quickly. "I'm blind." I said. He chuckled and came further into the room. He picked up one of my boxes containing my make up. "Don't you have your own stuff, you don't have to carry mine."
"No, mine is all packed away in my car. And I want to." he said, grinning at me. He leaned against the counter as I wiped away a stray mark of eyeliner on my face. He was watching me intently, an odd look on his face. He almost looked like a kid would when he was invested in a cartoon.
"What?" I asked, smiling slightly as my lips parted. He glanced down at them for s split second before shaking his head.
"Nothing, just watching you. You take forever you know." he said. I gave him a glare and tossed the make up wipe in the trash.
"Fine, let's go." I said, picking up my bag and slinging it over my shoulder.
"You are riding with me to the party right? Zoe and Phil are already in the car." he asked. I nodded and we headed to his car.
"Dude, you drove me here, how do you expect me to get to the party or home?" I asked.
"Fair point miss sassypants." he said. I nudged him as we walked. The parking lot was scarce, only a few people filtering out. I had stayed a little after to help Mrs. V with stuff and then I still had to pack up and get all out of character and such.
"Shut up." I said. "I'm tired and hungry, what do you expect?" I defended.
"Well we'll get food at the party. Trust me that's my top priority right now." he said. I let out a giggle and I walked round to the trunk. I put my stuff inside and headed back to the passengers seat which Zoe and Phil had so graciously left for me.
"Wow, leaving me the front seat?" I asked.
"You did such a great job, we just had to." Zoe said.
"Yeah, you're fine with it because you don't have long legs." Phil grumbled.
"Long legs Lester." I commented and he slapped my arm lightly.
"That was even lame for me." he said.
"Excuse me mister I didn't ask for sass." I called.
"See when you get in drama mode it's hard to get you out of it." Phil argued.
"Exactly. Get used to it." I lashed back, settling in the seat.
"Let me guess you're hungry?" Zoe interrupted.
"Very." I replied again.
"We have a very hungry dramatic woman in the car, we have to get there quickly." Dan said, taking a left. I laughed and settled back in the seat, resting my eyes. We arrived rather quickly to a house screaming with people. Phil was worried since that they weren't drama kids it would be awkward but seeing as the party was booming with people and music, I think we were fine. A trashy song blasted and I immediately put my hand over my eyes.
As if I wasn't tired enough.
"Gabriella!" a girl called as I walked in the party, Dan following closely behind. Phil and Zoe were behind as well.
"And her Troy!" someone else screamed. The whole party erupted with a cheer when it was given the chance. I looked over at Dan who was laughing hysterically.
"What is wrong with you?" I asked, laughing a little as well.
"Your face!"
"Wow thanks." I said sarcastically.
"No, no it's just I can tell you don't want to be here. It's funny." he said.
"Wow, is it that obvious. Now come get food with me I'm dying." I said. I grasped his hand, leading him further into the house where I suspected food to be. There was a counter full of alcohol to which I scowled. I wasn't a fan. There were a few pizzas on the table and I quickly helped myself with 3 pieces onto a plate. I held out the plate to Dan and he took one. We stood, munching quietly.
"I actually don't want to be here myself." Dan said. I nodded.
"Yeah, it's kind of...sad." I said.
"I get that." he said.
"Hey Gabriella join the party why don't you?" a boy handed Dan a red solo cup and held one out to me. I glanced down at the sour smelling drink in his hand.
"No I--"
"Come on. Live a little." he said, shoving it in my hands. It sloshed around and I looked down at it hesitantly.
"Thanks." I said, nodding. He smiled and danced off. I poured it down the sink, watching it with disgust. Dan tossed his away as well. "You don't have to do that just because I don't like it. It's fine." I said.
"Nah, I never really liked being drunk. I just did it." he said.
"Why?" I asked. He stared at me somberly and longingly, his eyes dark and sad. He let out a sigh and looked away from me.
"Guess I just thought I was cool." he lied. He turned away, taking another bite of pizza. Was I really the reason he got drunk? Because I annoyed him or?
"Yo (y/n)! Dan!" I turned to see a very drunk boy, the one who played Chad I think. Devon?
"Hey Dev." Dan answered, fulfilling my suspicions.
"Guys you gotta come upstairs, all the main cast is up there." he said. I nodded and Dan grasped my hand, pulling me through the throngs of people. We headed up the stairs and Dan let go of my hand, to my disappointment. I liked that. There was a room at the end of the hall that was quieter than the rest of the party. Everyone was laughing at something and I immediately felt at ease. Devon shut the door and gave devilish grin.
"Okay! They're here and it's their turn to play 7 minutes in heaven!" he said.
"Wait what?" I asked, but there was no time to ask questions as we were shoved in a closet. The door slammed and I stood in front of Dan, extremely close from the small space.
"What the hell was that?" Dan asked.
"I don't know. Drama kids are friggin weird." I said. I backed up a little but I was already pressed up against the wall as was Dan. "This closet is small. Feeling a little claustrophobic." I said.
"I know, you want to just get out?" he asked.
"Yeah, why didn't I think of that?" I asked. I pushed open the door, as the one holding it was drunk as well.
"Do you want to leave? I'm sure Phil and Zoe don't want to be here." he said. I nodded vigorously and we left, leaving the gross, sweaty party behind. I climbed back into the car and shut my eyes again still exhausted.
"That sucked." Phil commented.
"Yeah, it really did." Zoe replied.
"You guys want to head back to mine? I'm sure my mom has tea." I said.
"Yeah that sounds amazing right now." Dan said.
"When did we turn into old people?" I asked. Dan laughed, pulling out of the driveway.
"We've always been. It's deep within us. So who wants to play shuffleboard?" he asked. I laughed as did everyone else in the car.
Now this was my kind of party.
YEET.
Stay awesome!
