Dan's POV

"I still don't see why you just sit here instead of doing something," Phil said, motioning to (y/n) who was laughing wildly at something PJ had done in art. It made me jealous to see her that happy with someone else, especially a guy like PJ. He was so nice he could easily snatch up any girl he wanted. Of course I'm sure he knows I like her and wouldn't do that, but burning jealousy still ran through my veins.

"Because I don't want to die Phil," I replied. PJ disappeared off to his next class and (y/n) approached us a large smile on her face.

"Ready for physical education??" (Y/n) asked. She had transferred over to our class after the last semester change.

"Hah, no," I replied. I faked a limp and (y/n) glared at me.

"Don't be a hoe and do your jumping jacks like a man," she joked.

"Ahem, sexist much?" I joked back and she laughed, leaving for the girl's locker room. I watched, smiling, as she turned, hand on the boy's door before realizing that wasn't where she was supposed to go. Her face flushed and she waved to us, disappearing behind the right door. Phil began to softly sing Whitney Houston's I will always love you and my face went red. "Shut up Phil," but he laughed and grinned.

Everyone got dressed and went to go sit in the gym. (Y/n) took a seat next to me, loosely hugging her knees to her chest. This of course revealed her upper thigh where all the thin marks lied under her skin. I felt my face go pale and I looked away, embarrassed at what I had done.

"Laps!!" I heard Mr. Keenly call out and everyone dispersed. (Y/n) looked over at me, standing up causing her hem to fall and cover them.

"Man, someone really doesn't want to run laps!!" She said, noticing my pale state, "are you okay? You can sit out you know, forget about my jumping jacks statement." She said giggling slightly.

"Uh yeah, I'll sit down," I said, walking over to the teacher. She ran off with Phil and they lazily jogged around the gym. Mr. Keenly let me sit after seeing my face and I hugged my lanky legs to my chest.

I watched them jog along and every time they passed, (y/n) would do something ridiculous at me, jogging off with Phil again.

She was always so happy with Phil, he was her best friend after all and he'd been through everything with her. It just made my blood boil that I would never be as close as them. Like I deserve it.

I had been deceitful, lying, a true bully for how many years and yet she's happy with me around. She was giggling as passing by me with a little dance to make me feel better. All for what? To be friends with your ex bully? She laughed at something Phil said and I squeezed my legs against my body. This time around (y/n) noticed the tiny shift.

Are you okay?

She mouthed at me and I only nodded. I was fine, everything was fine. Some days I question why she stays around me. Gym ended way quicker than expected and I followed Phil to get changed. I hadn't said a word, only gotten up and followed quietly and I could feel (y/n)'s look of concern. She walked with her head down towards the locker room.

Why do I have this much power? It's just that everything I do seems to affect her as much as she does me, and she always seems to get hurt.

"You good?" Phil asked, I nodded and shed my shirt.

"Fine,"

"You don't look fine, what happened?"

"Nothing, just a little ill,"

Phil eyed me suspiciously and we left to wait in the hall until the bell. (Y/n) was against the wall, running her hands through her hair, eventually securing it with an elastic. I loved it when she did things to her hair. No matter what she always looked good, even this simple pony tail.

I noticed Grace approach her as we did and she said something to which (y/n) nodded. She walked off once she saw me, and we walked up to (y/n).

"Hey Dan are you sure you're okay?" She asked. This was the third time she's asked and to be honest I'm not okay.

At all.

"Would you stop asking I already told you I'm fine," I snapped and she seemed taken aback.

"Sorry," she murmured and the bell rang. She took off to her next class and Phil smacked me in the arm.

"Well gee now she's totally going to date you," he said, and I just shook my head. We walked along until I heard small shouts.

"Why does Alfie date you anyway? You're just an attention seeking whore!" A boy called.

Zoe.

"Hey back off jackass no one wants to hear your opinion!"

(Y/n).

I turned the corner to see (y/n) standing in between a taller boy and Zoe as the bully sneered.

"I didn't ask you, bitch!" He shoved her so that she fell to the floor and she groaned. Alfie came running.

"What the hell is going on?" He asked and the guy took off. Alfie distracted himself with Zoe and I ran to (y/n)'s side.

"Oh my god are you okay?" I asked. I reached out for her hand and she pulled away.

Worst choice of words.

"I'm not dying. I don't need your help." She said, helping herself up and dusting off. I could see her wince and I noticed a bruise on her elbow. I should've said something, forced her to nurse, but I just stood there gaping at her while she nonchalantly gripped her elbow.

Of course she didn't want me to help her. What a joke. She turned to go to Zoe who thanked her for stepping up for her and apologizing for what happened. I watched her walk down the hallway and go to her next class as the warning bell rang, causing me to turn the other way.

I'm not okay.

-_-

Stay awesome!
