(Y/n)'s POV
When the plane landed, it was almost as if I was drunk. I don't tend to handle planes well. I took my backpack around my shoulders and went to get my 2 suitcases.
From what I understood, the school was a small building in the Manhattan area. Once I retrieved my bags, I headed out the door and got into a cab. I watched the car pass by a small homeless man and my heart sunk, sitting back in my seat.
So far, New York was not sitting with me well.
The driver pulled up around a block away from the building to me protest. He kicked me and my suitcases out to have me lug 2 suitcases and a backpack down a scary looking block. I just pulled them along, cars honking at each other. I was almost to the right building when I heard a whistle.
"Don't get lost darling," I glanced at a scary looking man, a total pervert, staring me down. I nearly sprinted that extra few feet to the front door. It was cool inside and the walls and floors were marbled, a small desk across from the door.
"You must be (y/n), the new arrival," a small woman with brown hair and eyes said. "Follow me to your room dear." I obliged and she led me to an elevator to the 4th floor, room number 46. "There you are."
"Thank you." I said and she handed me a key. I knocked for the sake of whoever might be in there and opened the door. A young girl with brown hair and green eyes looked up at me and smiled.
"You're (y/n)!" She said, getting up and sticking out her hand for me to shake. "I'm Emma."
"Hello."
"Woah, cool accent," she said and I smiled bashfully. "So, where are you from?"
"I'm from a small part of Manchester, you?"
"I'm about 20 minutes away," she laughed and I smiled. Man I wish that was me. "I can't believe you flew all the way here. Do you know anyone in the city?"
"Uh...no."
"Well you do now! You can meet my mom sometime too," she said, flopping back on her bed. We talk for the rest of the evening, and I have to say that Emma had to be the best part about the whole thing so far. "Hey, I'm going to head across the hall for a bit, I'll be back in like 45 minutes."
I watched her get up and I glanced at the time. It was around 10 am. It was odd with the time zones.
I had left at 8 and flown for 7 hours which would mean it was 3 pm where everyone is. But now I'm 5 hours ahead so it's 10 am, though it feels late. I decided to call my mom first and get that out of the way. I dialed her on FaceTime and she succeeded in picking up.
"Oh dear, how was the flight?" She asked.
"Okay, I slept a lot," I said. I told her about the place and the city and she told me she was proud of me for going and we ended the call, making me want to cry. I called Phil next and he answered almost immediately.
"(Y/n)!!" He called. Zoe was sat beside him, smiling as well.
"Hey," I said, smiling. I was already happy to see their faces.
"How's New York?!" Zoe asked and I shrugged.
"It's a lot of buildings," I said, pointing the camera at the window.
"This is so weird, you're in a totally different country," Phil said.
"Yeah, I know, hey can I ask a question?"
"You just did but go ahead," Phil joked.
"Is Dan still mad? Have you seen him?" Zoe glanced at Phil like he had the answer and Phil sighed.
"Well, yeah kind of, I don't know if you noticed but he took down your video," he said.
"I noticed," I said, clearing my throat.
"Well, he's been very holed up in his room for a while, and I can't tell if he's sad or mad."
"Okay, thanks, I just wanted to know." I said, smiling.
"(Y/n)?" I glanced up and Emma had returned.
"Oh guys, I'll call you later yeah?"
"You better," Zoe said and I nodded, hanging up.
"British friends?" Emma asked and I nodded. "Well, Amy and I were wondering if you wanted to come with to just walk around this part of town."
"Yeah that sounds fun," I said, getting up. "Can we avoid that creepy man out there?"
"He hit on you too?"
"I think he's hit on all of Manhattan by now," I said and she laughed. We walked across the hall and I met a girl Amy with short buzzed hair, longer on the top which was dyed a natural sort of red color. She had huge brown eyes and smiled when she saw me.
"Nice to meet you," she said, shaking my hand.
We went out and ate, walked around in shops and random places for a while until it was around 6 pm.
"I'm sleeping over at Amy's, do you want to stay?"
"Nah, I have unpacking to do," I said, I walked to my bed and my phone was buzzing. I picked it up and flicked on the light. It was Phil again.
"Jeez, I thought I'd never get you before bed."
"Sorry, I was out with my roommate."
"That's cool, I just wanted to talk."
We chatted and it ended with me telling him that I miss him a lot and he returned the feelings. When I ended the call, I started unpacking my stuff and getting ready for bed. I had to keep my sleep schedule normal.
I felt bad for not picking up the phone call earlier, but I had to accept that it was going to happen every once in a while with business and time zones.
It's just that this was what I was afraid of.
Stay awesome!
