(y/n)'s POV

I walked up the front walkway to the school. The drama teacher had sent out an email that we'd be doing auditions for the first semester play during the last half of summer. Dan was going to meet me here as his mum dragged him to go shopping so I had to walk alone. I opened a door and headed straight to the auditorium. A woman in the office gave me a little wave as I passed and I waved back before entering. It was a few people I had seen before and some new people. Mrs. V spotted me and waved me over.

"Hey," I called and she smiled.

"Nice to see you again, is Dan coming?" I nodded and as I did the door busted open and Dan stumbled in, catching the attention of everyone in the auditorium.

"Nice job idiot!" he glanced up at me and then to the rest of the students staring at him. His face flushed and he walked down the row towards me.

"Actually hush," he said, hurrying towards me.

Dan and I had been hanging out a lot for the past few weeks, only 3 more weeks left of summer. Water park, amusement park, fairs, shopping, you name it, Dan and I had done it over the summer. I had also spent a ton of time with Zoe and sometimes Joe. Her dad had officially moved out and was doing much better, but some days were a little tough for the both of them. Phil was always round or I was always round at his.

It had been the greatest summer.

"You two will be paired together, I know you won't mind," Mrs. V interrupted, handing us scripts. I sat down at the edge of the stage with Dan and we ran over the script.

It was the Rapunzel let down your hair scene.

"Oh my God, I need you to say that," I laughed and he rolled his eyes.

"What Rapunzel let down your hair?" he asked. I giggled and nodded.

"You know, you kind of look like Flinn," I said and he scoffed. "Just extremely tan."

"Yeah, okay," he said, and flipped to the first page.

We ran over lines a few times before we were called up. It was easy as was expected. I had to control my laughter when he said the line, I'm really not sure why it was so funny to me.

"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair," he called and I pretended to throw hair over a ledge, continuing with my line. Mrs. V called a wrap and we sat down. "You were trying not to laugh weren't you?"

"I mean, yes," I admitted and he smiled.

"Why is it so funny?"

"I don't know, don't question me," I said and sat back to watch some other kids. After the auditions Mrs. V called us over.

"I know it's not common to give the lead roles to you again, but I have this vision that you two fit. So I'd like to offer them to you," she said and I smiled, nodding.

"Thanks Mrs. V!" I called and she smiled. Dan and I left. "That was way less painful than the last auditions."

"Yeah," Dan agreed and I felt bad for mentioning it. The only reason it was so painful was because of him. We started walking home and he grasped my hand. "Sorry about that by the way." I felt my stomach turn and shook my head.

"It's okay." We walked along, hand in hand, for the rest of the time.

~time skip~

"So I heard you've been spending a ton of time with Zoe and Joe," Dan said. I glanced up from my phone at him.

"Uh, yeah," I replied.

"What's going on with them, I haven't seen them in a while only you and Phil."

"Ya know, stuff," I said and he raised an eyebrow. "Family things." he nodded. He laid back and put his head in my lap. He started talking about YouTube and I began to zone out, thinking about Zoe and Joe.

They had been dealing with this all summer and I was the only one they've told. Were they ever going to tell anyone else? What was going to happen?

"(Y/n)?"

"Hmm?"

"I asked if you thought me continuing YouTube was a good idea," he said and I frowned.

"Oh yeah of course."

"You okay? You're spacing out," he pointed out and sat up.

"Yeah I'm fine, just thinking," I replied and he nodded settling back into a sitting position. I watched him for a minute before turning to my phone.

I had a lot on my mind, so maybe I should tell him.

Ignored myself and turned back to my random scrolling, a little lump resting in my throat.

Yes it's short I'm pressed for time rn shshshshs

Stay awesome!
