Quick Note: Hey shippers! Finals week is coming soon to my school, so I'm avoiding studying stress by writing fanfiction about Fitzsimmons studying. : ) PRE-S.H.I.E.L.D.

---------------------------------------------

"Simmons, have you seen my Engineering 2 textbook?" Fitz half-mindedly asked his best friend.

"No,Fitz, and I hardly have time to look for it for you. I have a Life Sciences final tomorrow that I haven't studied for at all, and an essay for Evolutionary Development due on Tuesday. Not to mention finding my notes for Immunology, maybe they're still with Jeremy, I'll need to call him later. Oh! And the Immunology final on Wednesday with the content I kind of get, but not-"

"Jemma!" Fitz interrupted the young Phd student's rant.

"Yes, Fitz?" Jemma asked, looking up quickly from her notes to catch her friend's eyes. The pair paused a moment, then awkwardly broke the eye contact.

"Um," Fitz started, looking at the open notebook in front of him. "I think we need to take a break from this studying. Do you want to go back to my dorm and watch some old movies?"

"Fitz, I don't know if I should-"

"Jemma, please? You're too stressed, and so am I. Let's relax." he pleaded.

Simmons didn't have to do much considering. When Fitz used her first name, she was so easily persuaded. "Fine." she said, starting to pack up her things. "But you have to make the popcorn."

The scientists walked beside each other to Fitz's dorm building, talking about finals they needed to study for and eventually mocking their teachers.

They entered Fitz's little room, and Fitz closed the door behind them. This was technically against the rules, but the dorm monitor never followed them anyways. Everyone trusted young, innocent Fitzsimmons.

"Captain America or Hulk?" Simmoms asked, holding out the two discs.

"Jemma, I said old movies." Fitz replied from the kitchenette.

"So, Hulk?" Simmons asked from the living room area.

"Duh." Fitz replied as he punched in numbers on the microwave. Simmons rolled her eyes teasingly, then slipped The Incredible Hulk into the DVD. She flipped the switch to turn on Fitz's super projector he had made for his dorm specifically, and arranged some blankets.

Fitz, holding a bowl of popcorn, walked back from the kitchen and said, "Nothing like some good old Hulk to relieve stress!" Then he laughed and explained, "Get it? 'Cause Hulk has stress problems and we are watching him to, uh, yeah..."

Simmons laughed to make Fitz feel better about the awful joke he had just told, then said, "No, I think it's more spending time with you that relieves stress."

Fitz, who had sat down, awkwardly smiled at her, then the two turned away, embarrassed. They watched the movie half-heartedly, commenting on if they thought things were scientifically possible or not every once in a while.

When the rainy cave scene appeared on TV, the pair halted conversation. They gazed at the couple on screen longingly, because they were the kind of hopeless romantic nerds you would find in young adult books. They both wanted to glance at the other person, but were both too afraid that the other person would be looking right back at them. So they sat and watched the movie like any other friendship would, pushing down what they had started to feel for each other.

Yet despite their hard resistance, Fitz wasn't afraid to lace his fingers between Simmons', like they had always done as friends before. He wasn't ashamed of feeling the butterfly flutter in his stomach or his heart beating fast. And little did he know, Simmons felt it, too.

And from that point on, Leo swore he would stay with Jemma forever.
