Fitzsimmons

Twelve Days - Day 3

"You know, Natasha Romanoff was a ballerina," Fitz raved while they waited outside the theater. "This will really be worth it. The Nutcracker is the best classic ballet I've ever seen."

Simmons smiled at her dork of a boyfriend. "And I'm assuming you're an expert on classic ballets."

"I've seen all of them," Fitz said very seriously. "But you, Jemma Simmons. You are missing out."

"I can't wait," Simmons groaned. She was really against ballets. They were always boring to her, and the stories were outdated.

Once Fitz had bought their tickets, they headed inside the old theater. Fitz kept pointing out things about the architecture that Simmons couldn't care less about, but she tried to look interested. They found their seats on the balcony, a good view, and Fitz got up to buy them both hot chocolate.

When he got back with the steaming cups, the curtains opened and the dancing started. Fitz was transfixed by the graceful movements, and Simmons stared at him for a good minute before he told her to watch the show.

Simmons sat through the party scene, then the transformation from Nutcracker to man, then the fight against the mouse king before finally getting interested in the snow queen and king. They were obviously the best dancers on stage, and it showed in their posture and muscles.

The story continued on to a celebration with all of the different themed dances, and Simmons' eyelids began to droop. It had been a long day in the lab, and she would have to come in early tomorrow to finish her work.

"So, how did you like it?" Fitz startled her awake.

"Good!" she answered too enthusiastically. Fitz gave her a look.

"You fell asleep, Jemma,"he laughed. She rubbed at her eyes and tried to protest, but he stopped her and said it was alright.

"Not everyone enjoys it as much as me. I just love the fluidity of the movement. It's inspired a lot of my sketches." He saw Simmons sink back in her chair a little, head falling forward, and pinched her elbow gently.

"I'm awake," she protested sleepily.

"And I'm driving," Fitz replied with a sweet smile.
