Jemma woke up in that lazy sort of content state you awake in when you got just enough sleep. Then she quickly went into a panic when she realized she was seeing Leo, sure an unconscious Leo, but Leo all the same.

"Agent Simmons," Coulson called from the other side of the door.  So that's where the knocking was coming from.  Jemma sprung up in bed.

"Yes sir?" she asked politely.

"The team is visiting Agent Fitz today, remember?"

"Oh yes, I remember," she replied as she hastily made her way out of bed.  She threw on a polka dotted dress and started to brush her hair when Coulson spoke again.

"So, are you coming, Simmons?"

"Uh, yes, just give me a moment," she said as she twisted a piece of hair into her messy bun.  She skipped the makeup and hurried out, where the team was waiting.

"Okay, that's everyone.  Are we ready?" Coulson asked.  He always spoke of himself as just a small part of the team, even now as director.  The agents gave a chorus of yeses.

"Not really." Jemma mumbled under her breath.

"Let's head to the medical center." Coulson led them into the main area of the Bus.

"You just woke up, didn't you?" Skye nudged her friend.  Jemma rolled her eyes.  Skye laughed.

"Hey, I was up late thinking." she defended.

"Any decision yet?" Skye wondered cautiously.

"I've decided to stop trying to decide.  It will happen as it happens." Jemma replied confidently.

"Good decision." Skye reassured.  Jemma hoped so.

"Okay, he's still unconscious.  We aren't sure if he can vaguely observe anything in this state.  If he stirs, contact a nurse immediately.  Now you all must know that..." the nurse's voice blurred away as Jemma's anxiety overcame her.    She was going to see Fitz.  Her best friend in the whole world.  The one who had almost died for her.  What if she couldn't handle it?  Seeing him pale and lifeless, connected to all sorts of tubes?  Her Fitz, who was so lively and awkwardly enthusiastic, unaware.

Suddenly her legs felt weak.  Her vision blackened slowly, like an old television set turning off.  She was dizzy and nauseous.

"Simmons?" she heard Skye's alarming voice.

"I think I need to sit down." Jemma uttered out before collapsing to the floor.

------------------------------------------

She felt a strong, calloused hand on her shoulder.  Not that warm.  Rather uncomfortable, really.  She flinched away.

"Simmons!" She heard a voice whisper.  She opened her eyes slowly, seeing Agent Triplet standing above her and Skye by her feet.  She was lying down in a clean-sheeted bed.

"What happened?" she asked drowsily.  She tried to sit up, but was held down by Triplet's hand pressing her back.  She moved away from him, and he glanced away, then left the room.  She proceeded to sit up, and, although it seemed like the room was spinning, she felt fine.

"You fainted." Skye replied from the foot of the bed.  "Some nurses got you.  Said you might need some painkillers."  Skye handed her a pill and a cup of water.

"Thanks." Jemma replied.  She remembered being outside Fitz's hospital room, anxiety welling up in her, before she fell.  After a few minutes of deep breathing, she looked over at Skye.  "Can I go see Fitz now?"

Skye bit her lip.  Jemma could tell she was hiding something.  "Simmons, visiting hours are over for today." she said apologetically.  Jemma felt physical pain as her chest tightened.  She missed it.  She needed to see Fitz today.  She missed it.  She let out a large sigh.  Of course.  Leave it to Jemma to black out the moment she tries to figure out her life.

"Hey," Skye said, patting Jemma's shoulder.  "The nurses said it might take you awhile to fully wake up.  Maybe even over night." she said with a grin.

"What?" Jemma said, utterly confused.

Skye rolled her eyes.  "Oh right, you're a rule follower."  Jemma gave her an offended look.

"Being a rule follower is not a bad thing!" she tried.  Who was she kidding, though?  This new S.H.I.E.L.D., risen from the destruction caused by Hydra, didn't have rules.  Not yet.

"Anyways, the nurses were saying it might take you until tomorrow to wake up.  Ever wondered what hospitals operate like at night?"

"Not really, no." Jemma replied seriously.  Skye groaned.

"You are pathetic."

"Wait, are you saying I could fake-sleep until tonight, when there are less staff patrolling, then sneak out to visit Fitz?"

"I said no such thing!" Skye replied.  "How scandalous an idea, Jemma Simmons!" Skye winked.  "I'll cover for you." she whispered, then walked out of the room.  Jemma adjusted herself, then closed her eyes to fake sleeping.

Skye bumped into a nurse in the hallway.

"Is she still not up?" the nurse asked Skye.

"Nope.  Hasn't moved that much, either."

"Oh, that's not good." the nurse entered the room, Skye following behind her.  The nurse glanced over at an empty tray.  "What happened to the pills?" she asked Skye.

"Uh, cramps." Skye replied hurriedly and rushed out of the room.  Jemma held back a laugh.  The nurse sighed, then examined Jemma for signs of conciousness, which Jemma knew how to react to.  She laid still, staring straight at the backs of her eyelids.  The nurse soon walked out of the room, shutting down the lights and closing the door.  She made her way down the hall.

Only when Jemma heard silence did she dare to open her eyes.  She silently removed her covers and swung her feet off the bed, landing lightly on the floor.  She slipped off her shoes and snuck to the door.

This was the most Agent-y experience she had ever had.  She quickly and quietly crept down the hallway, ducking into a bathroom when someone strolled past her.  Finally, she was in the hallway she remembered.  She snuck from door to door, peering in windows, searching for a curly mop of light brown hair.  Then she saw him.  Fitz.

Quick Note:  I know this is probably not how a hospital would run, but fanfiction.  What are you going to do?  Sorry it's been a whole week since I updated.  I've been having writer's block, not to mention I've been really busy with camps and friends and preparing myself for LEAKYCON!  (I'm a Starkid now.)  I have a ton of prompts I can use now, but please send me more!  I would love to hear your ideas.  Thanks again for reading!
