Fitzsimmons lay in their king size bed on the second floor of their suburban London house. It was an older house, and Fitzsimmons had renewed it with little improvements here and there, so it looked more like a collage of different eras and memories. Their bedroom was painted plain white, after several hours of bickering, and they had a rusting brass chandelier swinging creakily from the ceiling. The rest of the room was a mess of Leo's abandoned projects and various stains from Jemma's experiments, not to mention their photo wall scattered with pictures of their time on S.H.I.E.L.D., their wedding, their twin daughters and son. The wall opposite their bed had three large, dusty windows placed in formation around a sort of day bed full of cushions and throws that the twins liked to nap on. Right next to their bed lay a desk with laptop running and disorganized bookshelf.
Leo opened his eyes and stared at the peeling ceiling, then at his beautiful wife Jemma. He leaned over and kissed her sleeping figure on the cheek, then pulled himself out of bed to get the twins ready for kindergarten. Becoming a father had made Leo more aware of his love for Jemma and his other close friends, and he had learned how to properly brush through and ponytail hair.
He walked down the hallway to his sleeping girls' room. Rose and Sarah Fitzsimmons were twins, so they shared the same fairy-garden-themed room, one on a single bed on the right, the other on the left. He flipped on the lights, and Sarah flickered her eyes open like that.
"Daddy," she whined. Sarah was a light sleeper, but wished she wasn't. On the weekends, she usually slept 'till eleven. Now Rose was a different story. She was a heavy sleeper and could wake up easily at whatever time was necessary. Leo went over to wake his other daughter as Sarah rolled back over and tried to go to sleep again.
"Good morning, daddy." Rose said with a sleepy smile once Leo had managed to wake her up.
"Good morning, monkey." he replied, brushing away her light brown curls and kissing her on the cheek. Rose swung her feet off the bed and pushed past Leo to the bathroom on the other side of the hall. Leo returned to Sarah and woke her up eventually, ushering her into the bathroom just as Rose skipped out.
Fitzsimmons were not the kind of parents to twins that would put them in the same outfits every day and confuse the hell out of their teachers. They put their daughters in different clothing entirely. For example, Rose today wore a light blue blouse and navy jeans while Sarah wore a pink with white polka dots dress. The only thing they wore the same was their tiny black converse. Even their hair was different from each others, so Leo had to come up with creative and acceptable ways to style long, curly hair.
Once the twins were all ready, he walked them down to the kitchen, where Jemma was already making pancakes with their waiting son, Grant. Leo watched as she poured batter and sipped her own coffee, and thought of how lucky he was to land this gem of a girl. He strode over to Jemma, and kissed her slowly. Rose and Sarah, now sitting at the breakfast bar with Grant, 'ewwwww-ed' their parents. Grant laughed at them, and Leo pulled away slowly and reluctantly, yet with a smile on his face. Every time they kissed he was reminded of their first, and how passionate their wedding kiss was, and the several times they had kissed before, and he never wanted to stop.
Jemma finished the pancakes with Leo's eyes watching her every move, then slid the plate onto the table, where the kids grabbed them up quickly. Jemma poured Leo a cup of coffee, and he took it appreciatively. The couple was not yet dressed, because in the new S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Coulson had created, the scientists had the opportunity to create their own hours, and even work at home. The parents had become accustomed to walking their kids to school (only a few blocks away), then walking back and spending some time together, then driving to the lab Director Coulson had built only a mile away from their home.
As the kids finished their pancakes, Jemma and Leo pulled on their jackets and grabbed their backpacks, tied their shoes like great parents. Then the Fitzsimmons family made it out the door and across the porch to the sidewalk. Jemma walked ahead with third-grade Grant, who leaned against her and talked about a class project he was working on. Leo walked behind with a twin in each hand, listening to his wife being a mother. Rose and Sarah played a game where they couldn't step on cracks in the sidewalk. Once the five reached the elementary school, Fitzsimmons dropped the kids inside, where they went to their separate classes.
Fitzsimmons turned back and immediately held hands as they started walking back home.
"This morning I was thinking of how lucky I am to have you as my wife." Leo stated. Jemma smiled in return. "Also, a mother of my children. You're beautiful alone, but when you help our children, you are just stunning." he finished. He liked being able to tell her she was beautiful anytime he wanted to, unlike when he was a scared young man who just started working for S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Leo, I love you." Jemma said, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"I love you, too." Leo replied contently. He stroked his hand through her hair.
They arrived home soon after that, where Leo gave Jemma a long, lingering kiss. They sat in the study and talked about their kids and their work, two subjects that were nearly the same to the two. Soon it was time to go, so Fitzsimmons got dressed and headed out the door to their Odyssey van. Leo drove with one hand, his other in Jemma's protection. It was an ordinary day, had happened hundreds of times before, yet Fitzsimmons still felt the same love for each other.
