Was in NYC on Friday
With my mom for an appointment
Though it was cold
We walked around afterwards
Not wanting to go homeSo we had an early dinner
At a Heartland Brewery
Afterwards we headed to one
Of our favorite locations
Bryant ParkDidn't expect much but
We had arrived
At just the right time
The opening and introduction
Of the annual Winter Carnival
Was underwayI looked at the ice skating rink
In front of me
And a familiar face caught my attention
Surely it couldn't be
But it was2 time Olympian
Johnny Weir
Was practicing on the ice
I took out my phone
Snap, snap, snap, snap
As he glided right past meI wasn't star struck
But just found it cool
To see an American Olympian
I'd watched and rooted for on tvMy mom found shelter in an indoor
Glass building and we stayed there
Waiting for an hour until the show began
I wanted to see Johnny skateThe whole show didn't disappoint
There were skaters from the special Olympics
As well as a tandem group of girls
Skating to the Phantom of the Opera music
Said musical celebrated its 30th anniversary
Last week and is my favorite of all timeAnd then at long last
Johnny took the ice and did splendidly
It was his last skate before heading
To South Korea for the Winter OlympicsMom and I walked to catch our train
After that, chatting, discussing what we saw
And all I could think of was how well the day
Had gone and what we experienced because
We had gotten to Bryant Park
At just the right time
