Silence

I don't listen or watch the news
I rarely look online
The chitter chatter
Is constant
If one truly listened all day
It would seem
The sky was falling

But unplug
Go into a grocery store
To the beach
Take a train
Into a city
See people

No one is the boogeyman
Folks smile
Say hello and thank you
Everyone is going about life
In the everyday
The sky is still above
Not on the ground

Silence
The white noise of ruckus
Of constant debates
Hate
Fear mongering
Finger pointing
Name calling

Step away
Meet a friend for lunch or dinner
Chat about other topics
Things you have in common
Have a drink
Eat a pizza

Taking a class?
Concentrate
Write your papers
Think of the future learned
From the past

Really, truly look at the people
Around you
Who walk by you
Strangers
Do they all mean you harm?

No, of course not
Silence
The buzzing reporters
Social media noise
The critics
Who can stand that all the time?

No wonder your energy is tainted
If all you do is dwell on the negative
Step away
Everyone needs it
Silence

Go on a hike
To the gym
To a game
Walk your dog
Play with your cat

Recharge within humanity
Then go back
To never-ending noise
If that's your choice

Silence
Must happen to retain one's sanity
It's an absolute must
See that you do it
