Chapter 12 - Steak Knife

(POV Tristan)

The Werewolf Clan is composed of twelve families. Each of the families has a leader or patriarch, also known as the Alpha.

In my family, our Alpha is named Ezra Eriksson. He is believed to be the most powerful among the twelve Alphas and he was tasked by the guardian to be the ruler among of the twelve families. In other words, he is like the King of the Werewolf Clan.

The Eriksson patriarch, Ezra Eriksson has five sons and three daughters. His eldest son is Meshach Eriksson and he became the first Direct Heir or the First Heir of the Eriksson family. Only the Direct Heir will inherit the unique ability of the family.

When Meshach had a first son, the title of the Direct Heir was transferred to his eldest son. Since the powers of the Alpha were passed down from one generation to another, it is said that the youngest Direct Heir is the most powerful one.

Lance Harrington is not an ordinary werewolf as he is the current Direct Heir of the Harrington family. I setup a meeting with him the next day to know his plans with Eliana.

"Tristan Eriksson, this meeting is indeed a surprise," sabi ni Lancelot pagdating niya sa restaurant kung saan ko napili na mag usap kami. Our table is isolated away from any prying eyes or ears.

"Thank you for accepting my dinner invitation. Please, take a seat."

Nagsimula akong umorder ng pagkain. Lancelot was a close friend of mine. I used "was" as we already severed our ties ages ago. I considered him as my best friend as we grew up and studied together, but one conflict destroyed our friendship.

"Tristan, it is good to see you. I thought you're in Sweden. Bakit ka nasa Pinas?" he asked while he is eating his favorite steak.

"I should be asking you the same thing. I thought you're staying in Wales. The next thing I know, you're a college student."

"Tristan, why did you invite me for a dinner? I am sure wala kang pakialam kung college student ako. Is this about Eliana?" tanong niya in his most serious voice.

"I won't beat around the bush. Yes, it's about Eliana."

"What about her?"

"Lancelot, did you ask her to be your mate? Did you already mark her?"

"Not yet, but I'm planning to. I like her, but she does not believe me. Anong kinalaman ni Eliana sayo? You're just related to her dahil nakatira siya sa bahay niyo ni Gwenevere, di ba? I am curious, bakit hatid sundo mo siya?"

When a werewolf marked someone, it means that they want to marry that person. No other man or werewolf is allowed to be with her. It is like putting a invisible wall around that person. Sa tagalog, babakuran mo na. In dog's term, you are peeing around your property to show dominance to your territory.

"She's my fiancee, Lancelot. I need you to back off."

"Fiancee? Are you fucking kidding me? Kababalik mo lang sa Pinas. Alam ba niya kung ano ka?" natatawa na tanong ni Lancelot. It seems na hindi siya naniniwala sa sinasabi ko.

"She knows I am a werewolf and I already asked her to marry me, she said yes. So whatever you're planning with her, disregard it. She's mine."

"She's yours?" he asked me angrily.

Lancelot just looked at me as if studying me. I know this man, he is a good judge of character. He probably knows that I don't have feelings for Eliana. Hindi din niya maitago ang galit sa mukha niya. The last time I saw him with this kind of serious face is about a century ago.

Without warning, hinawakan niya ang kamay ko. I tried to pull my hand away pero mabilis niyang tinusok ang hawak niyang steak knife sa kamay ko na tumagos sa lamesa. I was too late to realize his true intentions. He hold my hand to absorb some memories.

Every family has a special werewolf talent. The unique ability of the Harrington family is absorbing past memories by means of touching someone.

Nang makuha niya ang gusto niya, tinanggal ni Lance ang kutsilyo sa kamay ko and he just gave me a handkerchief para pahiran ang dugo na umagos sa table. Within seconds, my wound healed naturally.

"What the fuck, Lancelot! Are you fucking nuts! Do you really have to do that?" galit kong tanong sa kanya habang naglilinis ng dugo sa lamesa.

I remembered when we were younger. We are always into sword sparring. Normal na sa amin ni Lancelot ang magkasakitan dahil madali naman mag heal ang wounds namin.

"Will you let me touch you if I ask you nicely?"

"Anong nakita mo, Lancelot?"

"The real reason why you are with Eliana. So Gwenevere turned uncontrollably as well huh? Kaya pala hindi siya pumapasok sa university."

Pinagpatuloy ang pagkain as if he is not bothered by his visions. He probably saw what happened to Gwenevere and how she bit Eliana.

"Lancelot, you accepted it casually. Are you not bothered by this?"

"Oh it bothers me, Tristan. These unusual transformations and the fact that you will marry Elle out of nowhere!" he said with so much anger that his eyes turned into a smoldering red. This guy can change moods in a split second.

Anong sabi ni Eliana saken? Para daw ako may regla? I guess kaya kami naging mag best friend ni Lancelot dahil sa aming similarities.

"Eliana only sees you as her friend. Dapat alam mo na yan, Lancelot."

Kung ano man ang intentions ni Lancelot kay Eliana, I need to stop this habang maagap pa as I already marked Eliana. She's mine.

"And that gave you the right para agawin siya sa akin? She's my friend for three years. She does not see me as a Harrington heir. She simply sees me as Lance, her playboy friend. She accepted me and I must admit, I am beginning to like her. I don't know, I must probably love her already."

Love her? Nagbago na ba ang nararamdaman ni Lancelot kay Gwenevere?

"I am sorry, Lancelot, but you have to stop that foolishness. Eliana will marry me and there is nothing you can do about it."

"Ano nga naman magagawa ng isang Direct Heir na tulad ko sa isang Tristan Eriksson?"

This time, I can see the sadness in his eyes. It is like I am stealing the love of his life from him. I perfectly understand how he feels right now. We had a similar situation more than a century ago.

First Heir - Title given to the first son of the Alpha. Only twelve First Heirs are existing (e.g. Meshach).

Direct Heir - Title given to the direct descendants of the Alpha. Direct Heirs are always the first sons and the title can be passed from one generation to another. (e.g. Lancelot and Tristan)
