Chapter 25 - Divorce

We took the evening flight to Sweden pero nag stop over muna kami sa Hong Kong. Gusto ko sana kumain ng Chinese delicacies pero saglit lang ang stop over namin.

Tahimik si Tristan sa byahe at di na ko magtataka dahil madalas naman siyang suplado sa akin. Kahit madami ko kinakain na snacks, hindi siya nagrereklamo.

"Is there such thing as annulment or divorce sa mundo ng mga werewolf?" tanong ko nang nasa plane na kami to Stockholm, Sweden. We may not be in a private plane pero nasa first class section naman kami.

"Di pa tayo kasal divorce na iniisip mo?" taas kilay niyang tanong sa akin.

"Hoy Tristan, kasal na tayo sa papel baka nakakalimutan mo?"

"Of course, di ko nakakalimutan yun. Saan ka nakakita ng kasal na walang consummation of marriage."

"Wwhhaat?"

Consummation of marriage? Is he asking me to give myself to him?

"To answer your question, there's no such thing as divorce or annulment, but our twelve Alpha are old and wise. They know that marriage conflict may happen specially kung mahaba ang buhay ng mga werewolf."

"So meron divorce na tinatawag?"

"Eliana, once you married a werewolf, you will be accepted in the werewolf clan. You will experience the werewolf abilities and there's no way you will lose these powers unless you die."

"Werewolves are immortals, but you can still die if you follow the law of nature. For example, if I chopped your cold heart into miniscule pieces, you will die. Tama ba, Tristan?"

"Barbaric example, but you are right. Werewolves are somehow unkillable. We don't have any weaknesses as of the moment. That's a downside of the guardian blessing. You will forever live as a werewolf together with your spouse. So technically, there's no way out of the marriage."

"Ano ba talaga? So walang divorce? Ang gulo mo naman kausap, Tristan."

"As I have mentioned, the Alphas already foresee this scenario ages ago. If someone fell out of love and wants to get out of the marriage, the Alphas created loophole with the help of a White Witch."

"Werewolf, vampires and witches? Now this is interesting," excited kong sabi kay Tristan sabay lapit sa kanya.

"If you want this so called divorce, the White Witch will temporarily deactivate all of your werewolf powers. You will be stripped off with any memories regarding the werewolf clan. You will be casted out. You can live as a normal human being. If you decided to marry another human, you can do so. These werewolves who defied a werewolf marriage are called The Lost Ones."

"Tristan, werewolves don't age. Di kayo namamatay. Hindi ba magiging obvious na hindi kayo normal na tao?"

"The White Witch who helped our Alphas is too powerful. The Lost Ones will age normally but they can't die. Once their so called human lifespan is over, the Alphas will retrieve their bodies and bury them in a coffin. They are alive but will be forever sleeping."

"And this happened before? Meron na ba nag request ng divorce?"

"As far as I know, there was a married couples back in the early 1900s who fell out of love with each other. Both of them fell in love with someone else and they decided to spend their lives in human forms. That is the first time it happened in our history. I don't know much about it. Sabi ng iba, rumors lang daw yun."

"Tristan, if you will fell in love with someone else and decided to have a divorce with me, it means makakalimutan mo ko?"

"Yeah. You, Lancelot and Gwenevere. Everything about my werewolf family. That is my punishment for destroying a sacred marriage."

"How about me? Makakalimutan ko din ba ang family ko?"

"No, you're not a werewolf before. You will remember everything except us, except the werewolf world."

"I see. It seems that divorce is possible pero maraming disadvantages. Pero what if a werewolf fell in love with another werewolf? What if I want to have a divorce with you and I want to marry Lance instead?" tanong ko sa kanya na nag pataas na naman ng kilay niya.

It took him awhile to answer. Siguro dahil hindi niya gusto ang tanong ko about falling in love with Lance.

"Eliana, same thing will happen, but the three of us will suffer. We will lose all of our werewolf memories and abilities."

"Hassle pala yung divorce na yan."

"Eliana, wala pa kahit isa sa family namin ang nag request ng nullification of marriage. I am warning you, I don't want to be the first person to break the tradition. Tulad ng sabi mo dati, you are stuck with me," seryosong sabi ni Tristan. This time, inirapan niya ko.

Shit, mali ata yung tanong ko. Mukhang nagalit si Tristan. Bakit ba kasi ang daldal ko? Mas lalong di matutuloy ang pangarap kong honeymoon eh!

"I am just stating facts, Eliana. You are already mine, baka nakakalimutan mo," sabi ni Tristan sabay lagay ng eye mask sa mata.

"It may be a loophole, but technically, if you want to get out of a werewolf marriage, you will surely suffer. Both parties will greatly suffer. The werewolf blood is still within you, so you will feel constant headache, pain and nightmares. It is said that it is better na mamatay na lang kaysa mag request ng divorce."

"Thanks for the heads up. Wala naman ako balak makipag divorce sayo, baka ikaw pa nga ang makipag divorce sa akin," bulong ko sa kanya.
