"The Band is not proud because it performs well. It performs well because it is proud."
-George Parks
Music director of  University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band

Xuan's POV

Dear Diary,
You know how you sometimes see buskers playing music outside the MRT station or outside shopping malls? Well, today's the day one of them got real lucky.

So Diya,Rathi,Yang,Yokie,Jo and I decided to take the MRT back with Tetra and Rocky after Band. Yang also decided to drag along her tenor saxophone friend,Lynn because she wanted to grab dinner nearby anyway. So all of us decided to take our instruments home, even me and Rathi(both lugging huge things out of the train)with the exception of Rocky because she was a percussionist. She brought drumsticks back though, somehow managed to stuff them into her bag.

So we were exiting the MRT station when we heard a distinct sound, and us coming straight from the Band room identified it as a- "SAXOPHONE!!!!"we all said in hushed tones in unison. We walked briskly over to the shopping mall side where true enough, there was a saxophone player. The solo was really good and Lynn was enjoying it. Sadly, not many people stopped to drop money into the small box he had in front of him. In fact, everyone was just walking past like as if there was no one there.

Of course,we never expected everybody to donate, but we could barely see anyone appreciating the music. And it was a nice solo. A REALLY NICE SOLO. The 9 of us decided to just give whatever amount we could to the old saxophone guy. He was pleasantly surprised, and a little shocked when he saw me screwing my face up as i pulled the tuba case along with me. The thing's wheels broke a few years ago,it's so hard to move it. Rathi wasn't even complaining about the double bass. We stood and listened for a while to the guy as he continued jamming it out. Then,i saw Diya's eyes light up. She whispered to Yokie, who whispered to Yang, who whispered to Jo,and suddenly there was a lot of whispering. I didn't understand until i heard this special secret. And indeed,it was special.

MiLoh's POV

Dear Diary,
MSB and I decided to grab a quick dinner near home before heading back. This was delayed when we noticed something quite out of the norm. He pointed out a busker sitting near the MRT station, and highlighted the 9 mysterious people who were whispering among themselves. We decided not to care about it,until-"DAAAAAAAAA"(my ears) and the famous Star Wars theme started blasting everywhere.

I knew instantly who might have caused this, but didn't want to believe it. This was one of the craziest things they had ever done. I turned slowly, and gaped at the Band Gang, the tenor saxophone and Tetra and Rocky playing alongside the busker dude. Many people stopped and stared, and went to drop coins into the box that belonged to the busker. Some of them also started videoing,or stood and watched the performance.

I had to admit,it sounded really legit even though there were only 2 trumpets, one trombone, one euphonium, one double bass, one tuba, one clarinet, one percussion(which was hitting drumsticks on upside down trash bins)and 2 saxophones, one alto and one tenor. I was amazed at how 10 instruments could whiz you away on the Millenium Falcon to a galaxy far far away.(i know this is cliched) And the good thing about it was that the busker was earning more money than he probably expected to. He looked so elated,he probably was going to fly out of his wheelchair into space.

I myself don't know the feeling, and neither did MSB,but we both could feel the pride of Band nerds, and envied the feeling of playing together as an ensemble. MSB was a little displeased because he thought it was unhygienic that Rocky was playing music with upside down trash cans but i shushed him before he could ruin the priceless moment.

I was pretty sure they had seen us and started facing us and trying to smile while playing. When they were done,we went up to them to give them their deserved pats on the back. "Your child?"asked the busker, pointing to Rocky and Tetra. Me and MSB nodded politely. The busker chuckled and gave them a thumbs-up. "They're really talented. So are these people."he said, waving at the Band Gang, tenor saxophone,Rocky and Tetra. At that moment,i couldn't have been more proud.
