MSB's POV

Dear Diary,
You'd think that from the title, something extremely awful happened or MiLoh got into a fight or something. Let me tell you that that's all a misunderstanding. I,MSB,shall truthfully and faithfully tell the complete truth, and you all shall see that the "Band Disagreements" was something rather childish.

Diya and the principal,Jian Hway got into a little tiny fight today. Jian Hway had come to visit us for a short while to see how the Band was doing, and Diya was doing a piece called "The Barber of Seville". It's based on a play i think, and i have no idea what that play is about but let me tell you that song is intense. You can imagine how energetic the barber is,snipping the hair of his customers nimbly and agilely.

So this argument started right at bar 65 of the song. Both conductor and principal were actually arguing about whether the phrasing started at the start of the bar or at the 3rd quaver of the bar. How precise is that. Anyone that precise would be telling their hairdresser to cut their hair by the inch till it was just right. I couldn't believe this.

Of course,it wasn't really an argument, thank goodness. The whole Band and even MiLoh laughed as they argued whether Brasses or Woodwinds were better, with bright smiles on their faces. Jian Hway usually looks very solemn and stern, and i can't say she's not pretty when she smiles. The argument went something like this:
Diya:The phrasing starts at the start of bar 65.
Jian Hway[looking at a spare set of scores]:What?! No no,it starts on the 3rd quaver of the bar. Come, brasses, play from the 3rd quaver of bar 65.
Diya:No! The woodwinds' phrasing starts at the start of bar 65!!
Jian Hway:No,but the Brasses are more important so the Woodwinds have to follow them. Brasses play!
MiLoh:They're even more deluded than me. Diya is a Brass, and Jian Hway is a Woodwind, yet they're rooting for the other group. Haiizz....[shakes head]
Jian Hway:Brasses! 3rd quaver of bar 65 ok! Oh wait no,everyone play from 3rd quaver of bar 65!
Diya:No,but it's really hard for them to breathe from there!! Okay percussion!! Y'all decide who plays it better,Woodwind or Brass!!!

The poor percussion people, including my Rocky, were at a loss for words. They had friends in both Woodwind and Brass sections, and they couldn't favour one over the other. Of course, all this was just a mindless, childish little squabble. The principal, for once, had let her guard down, and was having fun like she once did with the Band. Even i couldn't help but chuckle at the silly little battle between the two. The soft giggles in the band started to grow louder and they couldn't "battle" it out anymore. Diya and Jian Hway also started giggling, and soon everyone was engulfed in sheer laughter to be fighting anymore.

After Band, everyone stayed back a little to tidy their section cupboards. I left a little later, waiting for Tetra and Rocky to be done, then we walked back together. It wasn't until we passed the piano at the foyer that we saw Jian Hway and Diya playing a piece on the piano together, making lovely music. After all, both Brass and Woodwind are important at the end of the day.

Signed
