MSB's POV

Dear Diary,
"Not another one?!"said Rathi in disbelief. Yokie nodded her head sadly. "What goes on people?"asked MiLoh cheerfully, hearing them and dragging me to find the source of this negativity. Rathi sighed. "Another person wants to leave the Band."she said. MiLoh's smile disappeared. "Whaaaat?! Why does this happen every year?! Y'all put in so much effort to keep it together. What's with these crazy parents who keep wanting to withdraw their child from Band?"he complained. "Well, counting that the Band does have a rather demanding schedule,i don't blame them. BUT,"i added hastily, seeing the thundercloud forming above his head,"it's not a good idea to make them quit too." Yokie's expression lifted. "Hey maybe we can go ask Xuan."she suggested.

"Remind me,why are we asking Xuan about this again?"i asked as they dragged me to the canteen. It was after school and there was barely anybody in the canteen. Yokie rolled her eyes at me. "Don't you know? There was this period in time when Xuan was doing extremely badly for her studies. Her tiger of a mom wanted to pull her out as well. Joyy, was that a tough battle." I gasped and looked at MiLoh. I never knew that that girl had been one of those poor students before. "So now,we ask. We are running out of things to tell the parents, and we need a person who's actually experienced this."said Rathi. "Won't this be a bit personal to her?"said MiLoh uncertainly. Like me,he was scared that she might blow her fuse if we got too far with this. That girl can be veeeerrrryy violent when she's angry.

"Eeeyyy!!! Look a' mah faithful customerss!!"she said cheerfully, leaning forward. "And your order?" "Actually,we're not eating today. We came to interview you."said Rathi. She smiled. "What for? Is it about the awesomeness of my porridge"she replied, cheesing with a ladle in her hand. Rathi shook her head. "About you quitting Band." Xuan's smile disappeared immediately. MiLoh threw a sideways worried glance. "What did i tell ya?"he said through his clenched teeth, sounding like he was being strangled. I myself felt uncertainty rising in my chest. Why on earth had they dragged me here anyway?

Xuan told us to come into her stall to chat. She slammed the shutter of her stall shut and closed the back door. "Another person quitting Band eh?"she said sadly. I had never seen this side of her before. It was so unlike her. "Well...yes. We wanted to ask you...how did you cope all the drama last time?" She took a deep breath and waited for the worst.

"Well, first things first. I admit that my studies weren't good at all. I mean i did bribe MiLoh to help me pass stuff if we helped him with Clarice, but of course my other subjects were super bad as well."she said. "You actually allowed her to bribe you?! Some teacher you are!"i whisper shouted, kicking him really hard in the shins and making him wince terribly. "So yes,i'm sure you all know how intent my mom was on pulling me out of the Band."she sighed. I had this virtual image (dang it MiLoh and his physics)of Xuan desperately grasping on to her tuba while a woman pulled her away from it. That image scared me,and i realised how hard it must have been for her. "It was a tough battle. I tried to study as hard as i could, but i still failed some subjects. It was also hard to talk about Band in front of her, because she would remind me countless times that Band was at risk." I suddenly remembered one time, when they were still students. It was History scriptchecking, and the Sec 2 Science scriptchecking had just ended. I vaguely remembered seeing Xuan holding her stomach as if she was sick there, and afterwards when i was in the staffroom MiLoh told me he had seen her being accompanied by Diya and a few other girls to the toilet, and she was crying. It had never occurred to me that she, such a happy and cheerful being, could shed tears. (Then again,it probably never occurred to her that i,such a stony figure, had emotions.)

"So everytime it was TPC,my mom went to speak with the Band teachers. Torturous each time,i tell you."she said, shuddering at the memory. "THAT'S what we wanted to ask you about."said Yokie. "At that time,Mrs Chan and Mrs Toh probably said something to convince your tiger mom to let you stay. What was it?" Xuan looked towards the ceiling and thought hard. "Hmmm, they did say that leaving the CCA did not guarantee that my marks would improve. They also mentioned that since Band was the very thing that motivated me to come to school everyday, why take that passion away?"she said. "I'm pretty sure that the victim now is very passionate about Band as well(i mean, all of them are thanks to the positive energy i left behind"and MiLoh and i rolled our eyes at the same time)so maybe you can tell the parent that quitting isn't gonna help shitz. Also tell them that if this is what the child is passionate about, let them go for it!!"she said. Rathi and Yokie smiled and nodded. "And we won't tell them we got advice from a canteen aunty,"Yokie joked. Xuan then turned to both of us. "YOU two are gonna find stuff about this sort of thing online, like what interests a child other than studying. Print it out and you can give it to the parents." We sighed and nodded. Now,if only we can settle the problem about Eva...
