Third person view
The Band girls sighed and leant back in their chairs. Band practice nowadays was getting more and more intense, and everyone was worn out. Diya parted her cracked, red lips and swallowed some water, her throat feeling as though it might snap into 2. "We will continue next practice,"she said wearily. She was just as tired as everyone else, it was hard to understand how much energy was needed to conduct about 70 people. Everyone gave little sighs of relief, too weary to even cheer.
CCA Promo was about 3 days away and everyone was given the knowledge about this as a rude surprise. Diya had only 3, no, 2 days to train them for this, and CCA Promo was a big event, as it determined how many new juniors she would be able to recruit. This meant they needed to play well, to attract people to come to their booth and sign up for Band auditions. And this also meant a lot of practice. The fate of the Band was not just placed in Diya's hands, but everyone's.
On a hot Saturday morning, Diya made her way to the school again, hoping everyone was well warmed up. And they were, more or less. Some helped the Percussion shift their instruments to the foyer, the traditional place where the Band always performed for things like CCA Promo. The chairs were half set up and the booth was ready, Rathi and Yokie already standing there waiting. Luckily, everyone assembled quickly and tuned, and Diya took a deep breath before giving them a warm-up march to play.
Surprisingly, everyone was doing quite well, given the fact that they had had a thirty-minute break about 2 hours ago and were still going strong. Diya felt her heart lift. She had trusted them to practise at home, and they did. They played well-known songs like Beauty and the Beast, How to Train your Dragon, Barber of Seville and many more. The Barber of Seville sounded more tired, but Diya understood and merely grinned at anyone who made mistakes. She could feel the hardiness of the band come back and take the crowd over.
"Drink some water, keep yourself hydrated,"she said, taking a sip herself. Everyone sighed and took small sips gratefully. Diya looked over to the booth. Rathi and Yokie were entertaining the parents' questions, and the helpful students who answered the parents when they pointed to everyone's instruments, focusing more on the flute, clarinet and saxophone. Then she heard hissing.
"Oi! Oi!! Diya!" She looked to her right and saw Xuan waving about with one hand, the other hand clamping onto the tuba tightly. She raised an eyebrow and prepared her right hand for a facepalm. Xuan always called her for things not worth calling, like "DIYA WHERE'S MY GLASSES CASE", "SORRY DIYA I WORE YOUR SHOES TO THE TOILET" and many more. She asked "what?" with her chin jerking upwards, and Xuan pointed behind her eagerly. Diya turned behind and her lips curled slowly into a smile at the short man with jet black hair acne who was grinning back at her.
And turning back to the band, she lifted her baton. He shoved his hands in his pockets as his smile grew, knowing what came next.
"S A TUR DAY NIGHT! S A TUR DAY NIGHT!" The Band burst into a catchy song that was well-known to most students and teachers. MiLoh bobbed his head along to the song, looking at the Band girls' dancing as they played. Many people stopped on their 'tour' around the school to watch the Band perform its magic, and their faces, tired from the heat, slowly rose and spread into a smile. MiLoh decided to make himself useful by helping out st the booth, where Yokie and Rathi beamed at him while dancing along to the music.
The Band performed many catchy songs, including Saturday Night Fever, which also included new gimmicks made up by the Band people themselves. Most of the parents cheered loudly when the Band delivered its final chord, followed by the whooping of the other CCA leaders who had been walking around to promote their CCAs.
"What made you come back?"asked Diya casually. Everyone was packing up and getting ready to go home to nurse their sore shoulders and aching arms. MiLoh shrugged.
"As stupid as it sounds, i felt a calling,"he said. "To come back here, i mean. And i'm glad i did. Tell everyone they did wonderfully."
And she did.The end(for now ;))
