"We're going to iFly"
He tucked his lips inside his mouth and looked away from me so he wouldn't laugh.
"Wait what?" I became shocked.
"You know what iFly is right?" He looked at me.
"I know exactly what it is! Why are you taking me there?" I didn't smile, and I was obviously nervous.
"Come on, trust me. It will be fun, I promise. How do you know you like something if you've never tried it?"
I looked out the window. I wasn't mad or anything, I was actually just confused at the moment.
"Are you mad? If you're mad I can take you back home... You know what, I'm sorry maybe it was a dumb-"
He was interrupted by my laughter.
"What?" He smiled as he looked over at me.
"You're insane!" I said, still laughing.
"I'm spontaneous." He said proudly.
"So you're not mad?"
"Nah. But I'm nervous."
I stared at his eyes. they were illuminated by the morning sun. I think he was talking, but I couldn't hear anything. I was in a daze. He had a slight smile with every word coming out of his mouth. The way he chewed his gum was subtle, it wasn't arrogant. His dark hair was styled so perfect. He looked at me.
"Paige? Why are you staring at me?"
I snapped out of it.
"Oh, I was looking at your face." I blurted.
"Is something wrong with it?" He looked in his mirror.
I laughed.
"No, something's right with it." I looked out the window.
"You like this face? This face likes your face!" He put some sunglasses on.
I started giggling. I don't think a guy has ever made me feel like this. Whether it was the fact that it's 5:45am and I'm awake, in a jeep, with with a boy i just met less than 24 hours ago and we're on the way to iFly, or the fact that that boy was Jack Gilinsky, but my heart was racing and I was happy.
Jack turned on the radio.
♪ "Because I'm happy, clap along if you feel like a room without a roof-" ♪
He started clapping and dancing in his seat.
"Are you happy Paige? I'm happy."
I started clapping and dancing with him. He rolled down his window and started singing to the people we passed by. I did the same. I was completely out of my comfort zone, like completely, I but I was having so much fun.
"You know, you're fun. I like you. Not a lot of girls are like you."
"You haven't even known me for a day." I smiled.
"I can just tell that you're chill. My chill radar is going off."
"Chill radar?" I shot him a stupid look.
"You're not too bad yourself, Jackie" I looked at him.
"Jackie? Oh lord. That's a woman's name." He said, pulling into a parking lot.
I laughed.
"What should I call you? Jackitha? Jackolantern? Jack attack?"
He laughed and shook his head.
"We're here, Paigey Waigey." He said in a sarcastic voice, right into my ear.
His breath hit the side of my face. It smelt like wintergreen gum.
I grinned and looked out the window and up at the iFly sign at the top of the building. If you didn't know, iFly is an indoor skydiving place. You basically go in a large tube with glass around it in a middle of a room and you fly above a huge fan with an instructor. This is going to be interesting. He turned off the car and got out. Before I could open my door, he came around and opened it for me. He motioned his arm out, like I was royalty.
"Thanks." I jumped out and adjusted my jeans.
"So how many times have you done this?" I asked him as we walked into the building and up a flight of stairs.
"Probably like 23 times."
"You probably take all the girls here."
"You're the first one." He smiled and looked at the stairs.
I felt kind of special.
When we reached the top, a guy that was probably about 20 years old greeted jack.
"Hey Dave!" Jack did a handshake with him. He was dressed in an iFly suit.
"Hey man! Who's this?" He looked over at me.
"This is Paige, she's my friend."
"Hi." I shyly smiled and shook his hand.
"You ever done this before?" He pointed over at the iFly station. The room was empty. I don't think they open until about 8am.
"I've watched my cousin do it, but I was too afraid to try."
"You're missing out! You excited?"
"I think so. I'm deciding between nervous and excited."
Dave smiled. "We'll make it fun. Follow me."
