It was Sunday and I was in the home theater downstairs in my house. I took a sip of my green tea and continued scrolling through Netflix. I swear I've seen more movies and TV series than a teenage girl should ever see. I clicked on Pretty Little Liars and continued watching season 2 for the 2nd time.
I saw my mom walk down the stairs. "Paige, are you ever going to get up and do something? It's summer." She looked concerned, probably seeing that I was still in my monkey-patterned pajamas at 1 in the afternoon.
"I'm just finishing some episodes of Pretty Little Liars." I lied.
"What is this? Your third time watching this episode?"
She took a seat next to me on the recliner chair and put her arm around me. She smelt like Chanel perfume, which she wore everyday.
"You can't just sit in this spot the entire Summer. Where's Ava? Why haven't you two hung out lately?"
I sighed. "I don't know.."
This was a lie, because I knew exactly why I hadn't talked to her lately. Ava has been my best friend since kindergarten, and we've been troublemakers our whole lives, even now that we just finished our senior year together. We recently got in a fight about something I don't even remember, but I'm sure it was stupid- that's all I know. We get into little arguments like this all the time. It's no big deal because I know by next week we'll be back to normal.
"I'm not going to sit here for the rest of my life. it's only 3 weeks into June. I'm just recovering from waking up at 6am everyday and dragging myself to school every morning."
My mom laughed lightly and gave me a hug.
"Okay, well I'll be upstairs working on the blog if you need me. Dad's outside fixing the pavement."
"Alright." I smiled and sipped my tea. She went back upstairs.
My parents own a landscaping company called "No Yard Is Too Hard" They actually get a lot of business. My dad, John, spends most of his time perfecting our yard for advertisement (It's gorgeous) and my mom, Amy, spends most of her time creating and posting new ideas for her blog, which is mostly about gardening for women. She has a lot of fans and she even goes on talk shows and hosts gardening parties.
And me? Paige Holland. 18 years old. Babysitter. Part time waitress at a pizza place in Ralston, Nebraska. I'm not all that special. I'm just... average.
