You smiled as your daughter ran around your yard. Rane was beautiful. She had (E/C) eyes, long, curly brown hair, and her father's smile. She was just like him, always trying her hardest to do what she believed in. You hadn't seen Anakin in years. He had slowly turned to the dark side, and you were the only one who saw it. So you left. Now, you didn't know where he was or what he was doing. You thought it was better that way. Rane wouldn't be a Jedi or a Sith. She would grow up, fall in love, get married, live a full life. And that was just how you wanted it.

You went inside to get water for Rane, and when you got back, she was talking to someone. He handed her something, then walked away. You hurried over to Rane. "Who was that," you asked, and she shrugged.

"He didn't say. He did tell me to give this to you." Rane handed you an envelope. Your name was printed on the front neatly in Anakin's handwriting. You gave Rane her water, then sent her inside. You walked to the front steps of your small home and sat down. You opened the envelope with shaking hands. Inside, there was a paper, a letter, written in Anakin's handwriting. You began to read it, hearing Anakin's voice with every word.

(Y/N),

Hello. I know why you left, and I know I deserved it, but it still hurts. I don't blame you. You did what you had to do to keep our child safe. If you're reading this, I gave him/her this letter to give to you. I knew you wouldn't want to see me after everything I did. Again, I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to see me either. I missed you every day you were gone, and I wished you were by my side. I wrote this to tell you it's highly unlikely that you, or anyone else close to us, will ever see me again. I killed the Chancellor, then ran. I didn't want to be the Emperor. The Republic is back on its feet. Obi Wan and Master Yoda are training more Jedi, which I'm sure you've already heard. I'm going to the Outer Rim, to Belsavis. It's a frozen wasteland, but anything is better than sand. I know you don't want to hear or read anything I have to say, but I'm glad I wrote this. It's given me a chance to tell you everything. If you read up to this point, I want you to know that I love you, and I'm sorry. For everything.

--Anakin

Tears rolled down your cheeks and splashed the letter as you read. When you finished, you let out a strangled sob and buried your face in your hands. You heard footsteps patter out of your home, a door close, then footsteps tap over to you. Then a pair of small arms were wrapped around you. You opened your eyes to see Rane hugging you. "Hey baby," you whispered, forcing a smile.

"Why were you crying Mama?"

"I just read something sad, that's all."

"Oh. Are you okay?"

"Yeah. I'm okay." Rane smiled at you.

"I drew a picture of a butterfly. Wanna see it?"

"Maybe later baby. Mama's got some work to do."

"Okay." Rane stood up with you and took your hand. You walked into your home. You went to your bedroom and sat at the small desk in the corner. You took out some paper and a pen. You thought about what to write. You tried several things, then crumpled up the paper and threw it into the wastebasket. Finally, you wrote a letter that sounded right to you. You read it several times to make sure you wanted to send it to Anakin.

Anakin,

Our daughter was born. Rane. She is the most precious thing in the world. She's just like you, same smile, same 'try your hardest' attitude. I can't help smiling every time I see her. I know you've seen her, so I'm not going to describe her, but when she's all grown up she'll be a beautiful young lady. I don't know what else to say to you, except come home. I miss you, and I love you too.

Yours, forever and always,

(Y/N)

You smiled to yourself. It wasn't as long as Anakin's letter, but it got your point across. You folded the paper into a robin, then walked outside to the middle of your yard. You held the paper bird in your hands, whispered a few words, kissed it, then threw the robin into the air. It came to life, flapping its wings, then the wind caught it and sent it flying away. You watched it go, smiling. Then you walked back into your home to go see Rane's butterfly picture.

Anakin Skywalker sensed the bird before he saw it. He looked at the sky in Belsavis, and there was a robin flying towards him. He frowned in confusion. Robins didn't come here. It was far too cold for them. As the bird got closer, he saw it was made of paper. Anakin reached out his hands, and the robin landed gracefully. It unfolded itself into a sheet of paper, a letter. Anakin smiled. He whispered "(Y/N)," into the cold morning air. Then he began to read.
