Zero

My name suits me well.

I am a nobody. A nothing.

Yeah I have friends, family, a place to call home, but I don't seem to be good at...well...anything.

If I have a special talent, I sure don't know about it. Nobody knows about it.

I am Zero.

And if that does not describe me, then what does?

So here I am sitting in my room watching the abnormal sunset that no one can explain. It's on the news everywhere. Everyone else is at football, basketball, cross-country, hanging out somewhere--it does not matter to me. I would rather sulk at home and be the wallflower I am.

The sunset was abnormal because the clouds were golden and the sky was pink. The golden clouds were almost almost surrounding the sun. It never appeared like this before--nor this long. It was like this for hours. There wasn't even a gentle breeze. Everything stood still. I would be one to know all of this since I walk around the park that is across the street from my townhouse and just observe everything.

That was when I saw it. Those two things fall from the sky.

Two figures fell from the center of the golden clouds. The clouds were cushioning their fall--stopping them from racing towards the ground thanks to good old gravity. It was as if the sky was trying to protect them from harm. What were they?

I had no clue what they were but it looked like they would fall in the park of all places, so I just had to go check it out. It was something different and out of the ordinary.

I quickly threw on a pair of shoes and grabbed my jacket as I darted out of my room on the third floor below the attic. I nearly tripped down the flight of stairs to the second floor, where the front entrence to the house was, so I could rush through the kitchen and out the door.

"Just where do you think you're going in such a hurry young man? Dinner will be in fifteen minutes." My mother told me as she was drying a dish from where she was washing dishes in the sink. She turned to watch me finish putting my jacket on.

"I saw something in the park. I'm going to go check it out."

"Just come back in time for dinner please, and what did I tell you about wearing your shoes in the house? You're going to track mud through the living room."

I replied, "I know, I know, I'll be back in a few minutes, alright?"

"Don't be long!" She shouted after me while I ran out the front door and flew down the concrete steps to my town house. I ran across the street without looking. Thankfully not a car was coming at this time of day.

After running outside to the far side of the park, I found the only thing abnormal: A girl and a boy dressed up in all white looking like angels lying on the ground unconscious. The sunset had started to fade out now, the last reminisce of the light stayed on these two people. They looked the same age as me. This had to be what I saw fall. Even though it looked weird and odd...I wonder if they came from a freak fest...

Their wings looked very realistic--as if they were pulled off a human-sized bird and attached to their backs. I didn't see where they were attached, only that they went inside the strange clothing.

And just me being curious, I had to go see if they were real.

I walked over to the girl--the one who if she was alive probably not think I was crazy-- and bent down to touch the fluffy white masses coming out of her back.

They sure do feel really real to me! I thought. I hadn't felt anything as soft. Her feathers were as soft as baby chicks. Soft, but durable and tough. Wherever she got them they were the most realistic things I've ever seen.

I quickly withdrew my hand and stood back up when I saw her start to move. She moaned slightly as she uncurled from the small ball she was curled up in, as if she was sleeping. She sat up and blinked her warm envy green--almost hazel--eyes as she tried to focus. She brushed her slightly overgrown bangs to the sides of her face, and put the rest of her shoulder length golden hair back in place: straight hair behind her, a couple of elegant inner curls on the inside to add to her beauty. She had rather pale skin, however it was rather obvious she had quite a dirt tan from somewhere, as well as her white and gold clothing seemed to be smudged with dirt and grass stains. She looked at me with wide eyes once her vision came back into focus, but before I could say anything to her she backed up quickly and fell over the boy.

"Ow..." The girl groaned, sitting back up and rubbing her right wrist.

"Are you okay? I-I saw you fall!" I asked, trying to prove I didn't come to hurt her or the other boy with her. Geeze, I was only fourteen!

"Yeah, I am fine," She bitterly snapped back at me right away before she looked around her,  "Wait...where am I?"

"In Indiana, uh, in America..." I responded back dumbly. I mean, how did she not know where she was? It's not like people just fall out of the sky not knowing anything!

"Oh no, this is bad, this is really really bad." She began to panic as I watched her wings fold out of sight from me. She was hiding them. And to think they were so soft too...

I pointed to the boy she fell over, "Is he okay...?"

"Brother-Brother?!?!" The girl frantically asked him while trying to wake him. He rolled a bit and moaned. The girl turned back to me, "He is fine, the impact just hurt him, that is all. There is no need for concerns."

I decided to change the subject, "So...what are your names? You remember that right?" I asked. "I'm Zero."

"I am not as much as a fool to forget my own name. I am Luanna and he is my brother Alex. I am sorry to bother you. We will just be on our-"

"No. You obviously have nowhere to go. Come with me. You're tired, hurt, and you are bleeding. You need to at least take care of the cuts and bruises before you can go home." I offered to help Luanna up but she refused and instead picked herself up.

"I can walk on my own, thank you." She was stubborn, but at least she was not begging for help and causing a huge dramatic scene.

I nodded back to her, "Okay, then shall I carry your brother...?"

She denied me rather quickly, "No, I can carry him. I do not trust ones like you." She gave me an evil glare with those eyes that made me back up quickly. Even though she was dirty, she was still absolutely gorgeous.

"Okay then." I have never met anyone like this. Was she thinking that I was gonna hurt her because she is weak...? What was she thinking, and who was she exactly?

Ah, well this was getting nowhere fast.
