Alex' POV

I noticed Luanna beating the tall guy who was holding Zero up with her cootie stick, and smirked. No one messed with Luanna. Or her- well, I wasn't entirely sure what Zero was to her. Her enemy? Friend? Boyfriend? Soulmate?

Either way, I was sure the guy got the message. Touch someone that's Luanna's property, and she'll beat you up.

I heard a snicker next to me, and glanced at the person who'd made the noise. A rather small girl stood there, slender but muscular at the same time. She had a nice, coffee-like complexion, and large, warm brown eyes. Her hair brushed her shoulders, and was dark brown, nearly black. She glanced at me, and smirked, her thin mouth going lopsided, and her big nose moved slightly "Your sister looks tough."

I grinned back at her. "She is."

The girl's frowned slightly. "Gregson is going to get her back for this though. He'll go after the wimp," she said, jerking her head towards the tall bully and then towards Zero. I couldn't help smirking at how she called my sister's crush. "I'm Alex."

"I know. Call me Piper."

"Piper?" I asked, trying to stiffle a chuckle.

She noticed, and rolled her eyes. "Laugh at my parents, not me!"

I grinned. "Nice to meet you, but I ought to be going."

I turned around, not really expecting an answer, but then her voice piped up. "I'll see you around!"

I glanced over my shoulder, and noticed her confident grin. I gave her a wave, and ran after my sister and the wimp called Zero.

Zero's POV

I ate slowly that night, throwing quick looks at Luanna every now and then. I felt embarrassed for not having defended myself, and I knew school would be hell from now on. The big bullies never liked it when they got made fun of. Even if it was by a pretty girl like Luanna. And I bet they'd take it out on me.

My mother scraped her throat. "So, how was school?"

We all shared a glance, and Luanna and Alex looked amused. "Good."

"Hmm. Did you three make any friends?"

There was an awkard silence, interrupted by Alex. "Well, Luanna made some friends, I think, and I met a girl who seemed pretty nice."

Luanna turned her head sharply, and I knew what she was thinking. Please. Not another Evangeline case.

Truth be told, I'd rather jump off of the Niagara Falls before that happened again.

"Really? What was she like?" my mother inquired.

"Hmm. She was nice."

My mother went to fetch something from the kitchen, and Luanna leaned towards her brother. "Another Evangeline case and I'll kill her," she warned.

Alex startled. "Relax, Lu. This girl-" he started, before chuckling, "well, I'll introduce you to her sooner or later. And I don't- you know, she's just not my type. Don't worry about it."

I groaned, and my mother came back. Luanna huffed, and folded her arms. I still wondered about the whole dating situation, but she seemed to- well, be single. Or my girlfriend. I wasn't sure which. I helped my mom clean up, and decided to talk to Luanna about it as soon as the chance offered itself.
