Luanna

Alright, let's try to make the best of this here, my inner monologue started, at least I had somewhere to rest while Alex was resting.

I had followed Zero while I carried Alex across the road to Zero's "house". Their family looked surprisingly normal. When we entered the place, his mother was cooking dinner, his sister was coloring at the table, and his father was eating a salad before he had his dinner. It was just too normal.

"Mom, dad, help he's hurt." Zero told his parents. His mother stopped cooking and got a first aid kit. She helped me lay Alex down on the couch while they cleaned some of his cuts. They also helped me clean and bandage some of mine from the kitchen. How did we survive the fall? I had no clue. All I knew was we had to get out of here. We had to find a new home until we could find a way back up there, somehow. I didn't like it up there, but I knew I wouldn't like it here better at all.

"So, where did you two come from?" Zero's mother asked while she tended to my injuries. She was calm and collected the entire time, even though she did just let two strangers into her home.

"Do you really wanna know?" I asked while adjusting my hair.

"Hey, it can't be as bad as where you are now. Here sucks. Nothing interesting ever happens. You are the first interesting thing that has happened here in a while." Zero said. Oh it could be much worse than it is here, Zero. So much worse. Worse than you can ever dream of in your nightmares.

"Oh, so I am just interesting to you? Huh?" I had a sharp tongue aiding to my defense.

His father answered for him, "What he means is this town is a dying town. People are moving away. If nothing happens, this town will soon just become an airport for the major city that is 10 miles away. The city needs an airport. If the population keeps decreasing we will be moving in less than a year from now."

Zero turned to his father, "You mean we are not moving sooner, so dad you will be able to find a new job?" Why were they discussing their family matters with me there? I was not a part of that family.

"No, we want to stay here because this is our home. Everything is here that we could ever need."

"Okay, okay. So he wants to move, you do not, I get it. I say you work this out together to make this decision so no one gets off terrible, but who am I to tell you how to live your life? I'm not even part of your family. All I know is that--" I stated, trying to get the argument out of the way. I didn't want to deal with these arguments.

"We are stranded here. There is no way we could possibly go back." Alex came up behind me and finished my sentence for me. He must have woken up. He does that all the time; coming behind me, finishing my thoughts. I guess that's just what twins do, especially when the only person they have besides themselves is their 'other half'.

"Yeah, you could put it that way," I replied as I turned around to look at Alex. He stood firm on his feet. His brunette with a hint of auburn hair flopped out of place all over his face. He was a mess, but so was I. We did just fall off the edge.

"We cannot go back to where we came from. We have no family. We are now orphans. We need a place to call home. Do you know anywhere where we could do that?" Alex goes in demanding everything of everyone too fast. He doesn't even know these people. They could be out to get us too...

Zero's father looked to Zero's mother, "We have to talk it over, but I think this just might be the place for the time being. That is, until we can find you some real family."

"NO!" Alex and I shouted, "we cannot go back to them. They're gone forever." I stated.

"Oh..." Zero trailed on. He understood...ish. At least he got the point of 'we can't go back'.

Zero's mother sighed, "we can keep you, I guess. Do you have any papers or documentation? Are you from around here?"

Alex shook his head, "no, we're not. Our family...they were a bit off. None of us had anything. Liked to live in the wilderness."

"Oh they were those survivalist group hippies!" Zero's mother exclaimed.

"We were what?" I asked.

"There are people who live off the land around here and don't have contact with civilization--"

"Zero, that's insulting." His mother stated, "We'll have to keep them with us then to certify them at least, but you have to let us know: was there an accident or how did you get here?"

I looked down at my hands, "I'd rather not talk about it." My voice was rather mellow and dark. I kept it low and rather quiet. I didn't want to bring it up. They were humans, I had wings. We weren't normal.

"It was traumatic, Lu was shaken up pretty bad...plus although we escaped..."

"They may come back for us. Not our family. The others...They think they own us...I don't wanna go back Alex..." I looked up to him. He stroked my hair back mouthing, "I know." We didn't wanna go back, but we knew here in the human world we weren't safe. It was a tough situation we attempted to face bravely with a clear mind.

"Well, if they truly are orphans and I truly just lost my job then we have ourselves a deal!" Zero's father stated while looking at Zero's mother.

Moving would be great because certainly if people were to come looking for us, here would be the first place that they would look. Right where we fell...if they could even find us for that matter. Getting away would give us protection. As much as I hated it here, I wanted to get away from the kingdom at least for a little bit. I was done playing maid.

"You, mean you lost your job?" Zero's mother exclaimed.

"Yes. The company is closing down Sunday. On the bright side they are giving me a promotion to a different facility of the company however that won't be for two months. They are finding us a place out there, however until then we need to find a different place to live."

"Well then, I guess we are moving...but where?" Zero asked, tired of only listening.

Zero's father smiled, "in two months we are going to be on the west coast in a huge house on the beach with a pool and everything."

"But this house is so small how can we--"

"The promotion, I'll be the one in charge of the company out there. You don't have to worry about anything." Zero's father smiled at his wife, "I wanted to break the news to you differently, but seeing as these two are going to be here."

"And we are grateful for taking us in and allowing us to being here." Alex told Zero's parents.

Zero questioned this, "So where do we go for two months while we wait?"

"Once your school is over we'll be going somewhere west, perhaps Iowa for the remainder of the time." Zero's father smiled back at him, "everything will be fine."

"Can't we just stay here?" Zero tried to bargin.

"No, it's best to attempt to sell the house and the land early with the current situation since my work wants it on the market by next friday."

I wasn't even here for a day on this planet and I was already informed I was going to move. At least it would protect me for the time being. Perhaps I'd have a little fun with being away from my kingdom duties.
