Piper's POV

That's when I felt it. The demon, it must've been in the bus. I cursed and grabbed Alex. "Demon!" I hissed as he protested.

He ran with me, and we tried to catch up with Zero, who was sprinting towards a forest. I heard crackling laughter, and a shadow spiralled over Zero's head.

Alex saw it too now, and stopped me. "It might be after Zero, we should stay," he told me.

"What are you, crazy?! The shushno will be chopped into little pieces!" I protested.

"Well, yeah, but only Luanna will actually care. And his parents, maybe," Alex pointed out, "I'd rather be save."

I gave him a disapproving look, and started sprinting again. "We can't do that, Alex!"

He muttered something under his breath, but then followed me. Zero had disappeared into the forest, and was nowhere to be seen.

I glanced around as an eerie silence ruled. "Zero?" I called out.

"Shh!" Alex hissed. I ignored him. "Zero, where are you?"

There was no answer, again. I took Alex' hand and backed away uneasily as the air appeared to cool down.

"Where are you?" Alex called out.

A laugh answered, but it wasn't Zero's. It was a girl's laugh, and Alex' whole frame went rigid with horror. "E-E-Eva-a-"

"Alex, it's not real, she's not real, it's a demon," I urged, squeezing his hand.

"Evangeline!" the fool called out, stumbling foward. I knocked him to the ground. "She's not real, Alex!" I snapped, slapping him in the face.

A tiny gasp was next to me, and a beautiful girl stood there, her eyes full of tears. "B-but, Alex!" she protested, clasping her hands, "I am real!"

Why did I let Zero have the cootie stick again? Ugh.

"Stay away from him, you demon!" I snarled.

The girl -no, demon- gave me a foul glare. "Go, you miserable happy little dragunda-"

"Leave her be!" Alex yelled, jumping up. I started, but he was directing a glare at the demon. "Leave Piper be!"

The demon dissolved into black smoke, and then went through me. I felt a shaky sensation, and then-

Zero's POV

I ran as fast as I could, and then remembered that I had the cootie stick. I turned around, but it'd already found me.

The whisp of smoke seemed to wink at me, and then formed into a shape. Luanna stood there, in a pretty white dress, her curls hanging loose. Her blue eyes widened as I pointed the stick at her.

"Z-Zero, it's me!" she whispered, looking frightened.

"You're a demon, Luanna isn't here."

"You don't understand, it's one of my powers!" she cried out, "I'm me, please trust me!"

I hesitated. "You're lying," I accused her.

"No, believe me!" she wailed.

I dropped the stick, and she smirked.

"Goodbye... Zero."

A scream filled the air.
