Zero's POV
The plane landed, and by the time we were allowed to leave it, sweat was trickling down my neck. Emma was still shooting us looks, half-disappointed (crazy girl) and half-relieved.
Alex, Luanna and I shot out of the plane. I was aware of my parents somewhere behind me, but all I knew was that we had to get away from Emma, before she changed her mind.
Of course, that's when I felt the demon.
Luanna and I stopped at the same time, and she grabbed Alex' shirt. He glanced at our faces, and then gulped. "Demon?"
She nodded, and Alex paled. Just then, I heard a shriek, and I turned around. Of all people, Emma was on the ground, clutching her ankle. It looked broken, but most people ignored her, and walked past her. All I could concentrate on was the demon hovering above her, smiling brutally.
Alex paled, and was about to rush to Emma's side when Luanna stopped him. "Not now, Alex. We need to get out of here, she will be fine."
"But-"
"Dammit, Alex! She's not Evangeline, okay?!"
Alex stopped, and looked hurt. "Don't say her name like that," he whispered, "and I know she's not. But we can't just leave her there."
Luanna groaned. "Fine, but Zero and I aren't mingling in this mess. Later, brother," she said, taking my hand and making a run for it.
Alex' POV
I stared at the creature, and gulped. By now, Emma was being helped by a stewardess, but the demon just laughed, and snapped her other ankle.
Emma shrieked in pain, and guilt flooded through me. The demon knew she reminded me of Evangeline, I was sure.
I took a wobbly step forward. "Leave her alone," I whispered.
The demon looked up, and grunted. "Not likely," he roared.
The volume of his voice made me wince and wonder how it was possible humans couldn't see or hear them. Except for Zero, actually.
I took a step forward, and knelt by Emma's side. She was crying, and the stewardess looked panicked. I gave her a smile, and then glared at the demon. I couldn't kill him right here and now, but I could cause a distraction, and then let Emma make a run for it.
Evangeline, if you're in the real heaven, wherever that is, I'm about to pay you back for what you did, I thought, patting the suprised Emma's hand and then grinning at the demon.
"Come and get me."
