Zero's POV
Luanna stopped, and turned to me, an expectant look on her face.
"What?" I asked her, self concious.
She didn't answer, but sighed. "Zero, there is something I should tell you. And if I don't tell you now, I probably never will."
Anxiety flooded through my veins, and my hands shook. "Tell me, Lu."
"I don't want you to call me Lu," she snapped. I froze. Not good, not good.
"Tell me," I pleaded, frightened now.
"I never loved you."
And that was all it took. Four little words. I felt them destroy my life, and my heart broke. I took a step back. "I-" I choked out.
Luanna's gaze was cold, and I felt desperate to say something "W-well- g-g-good! I n-never loved y-you either!"
She flinched, and took a step back, like I'd done. I turned around, and stalked away, but then stopped. "I hate you!" I yelled over my shoulder, "and I always have!"
I felt the tears press against my eyes, and Luanna looked as if someone had just slapped her in the face, the expression on it completely confused. "But-"
I just muttered profane language under my breath, and walked away. "Zero, WAIT!" Luanna shouted. I heard quick footsteps, and Luanna came after me, still dragging 'Emma' behind her. "What the hell do you want?" I yelled, not able to stop the childish tears now as they left my eyes.
She was crying too, but held up a vial, and caught both of our tears. "That was the only thing I wanted," she whispered, "I do like you, Zero."
I flinched at her words. "I- I'm sorry."
Luanna gave me a bitter smile. "So I guess Alex was right? I was just someone for you to use, huh, shushnub?"
I grabbed her face, and kissed her. "I lied," I whispered. She pulled away, but smiled slightly. "Let's go prepare this cootie stick, shushnub."
Alex' POV
I felt confused, having pondered on the beach for what seemed like a century. Emma.
She was real. I had to save Emma. Maybe there was a demon inside her, but I knew there was a real Emma, there had to be. Because if she'd been a mere clone, then she would've resembled Evangeline more. Emma wasn't like Evangeline. She wasn't, she just wasn't.
I jumped up, and ran inside. I had to stop them from killing her completely. They were already busy, I could see. Zero was holding the girl -Emma- and Luanna was murmering things and throwing holy water over her while waving the cootie stick around. Emma's body jerked in pain. It looked like some kind of ridiculous Hollywood movie scene. Zero'd made me watch one.
"Stop!" I panted. Luanna didn't respond, and Emma started screaming, her body moving wildly. Sweat beamed on Zero's forehead as he tried to restrain her.
"Stop!" I yelled again. They both ignored me, and Luanna got a vial out of her pocket, and poured the content over Emma's face. The latter screeched, and then went limp.
There was a silence, and Zero let her go. She dropped to the ground, and I knelt beside her, shaking her wildly. "Wake up!"
Luanna placed her hand on my shoulder. "Alex-"
"Shut up!" I yelled, shaking her hand off and turning back to Emma. "Please wake up," I sobbed. Not another Evangeline. This wasn't fair. Why did Luanna have the right to be with a human, while I couldn't even be friends with one without her going wild on the girl?
"Alex, she-" Zero started.
"SHUT UP!"
Emma still didn't move, and I was afraid she was going to evaporate any second now. "Make her wake up!" I told Luanna.
"I can't."
I grabbed Emma, and hauled her up. "Wake up," I pleaded. She didn't respond, and I turned to my sister, anger boiling in my blood. "Is the demon gone?"
Luanna gave a silent nod, and I put Emma on the floor again, just holding her hand.
Her eyelids fluttered, and she moaned. I jumped up in excitement, but then knelt down again, and squeezed her hand. "Emma!"
The girl opened her eyes, and backed away from me. "Who the hell are you?" she asked.
Hurt stabbed me. "I'm Alex, Emma. Remember me?"
She looked cautious. "My name is not Emma."
I started. "What?!"
She looked scared, and that's when my heart froze, and noticed how she'd changed, and who she resembled. Not possible.
"I'm Evangeline. Who are you people?"
I whirled around, and grabbed Luanna's shirt. "Tell me she isn't a demon!" I begged.
Luanna shook her head slowly, and took Zero's hand. "She isn't," she whispered.
I turned to Zero. "Zero?" I asked, afraid.
The boy paused, and looked frightened. "I don't know how this is possible, but- she isn't."
I glanced at Evangeline, and knew that she wasn't. She was human.
The question was, how and when in the world had Evangeline, a dead angel, become a human?
