Nicole Beharie as (Mira) Call
Call and Holder grew up together, when there was nobody else, they had each other. Although they always tried to be there for each other, it wasn't enough to avoid all the shit in their young lives and on her eighteenth birthday she enlisted with the Air Force and left home behind. They tried to keep in touch, but some Skype every other month and then a few times a year's not enough for her to notice how he's just not handling shit on his own. Maybe she's not either
When Mira comes back to the U.S., she runs through the police academy, having no idea the direction Stephen's life is going in but just feeling like it's the natural next step after her service. She quickly moves up the ranks one more time in her life, and her superiors start having her investigate these cases with the National Guard and NOPD. Like she wasn't already trying to process enough from the last few years, the cases fuck with her brain like no other and not a single one results in justice for the victim. She's losing faith in a major way and she doesn't know who she's hating more the government or herself
Her final case in New Orleans, Call almost gets a officer indicted, when one of her bosses pulls strings, calls PTSD and gets her thrown off the case. She takes her leave seriously and goes clear across the country back. She just wants to forget all the ways she's failed and try to get healthy and move on when she gets into Seattle and immediately hears from Holder about him closing his big first landmark case. But her mind's not a mess for no reason, all she's been dealing with is dirty officers and she immediately picks up on how he's being fucked over and all the different ways he's been fucked over. And she doesn't hesitate to help him clean up his mess just to try to ignore her own.
They're grown now and Call and Holder are riding again, but their mistakes keep bubbling to the surface what's happened to them
LITTLE EXTRA: Some basic shit about Mira; I recognize how corny her family name is, so feel free to change it if you want, and I don't know a lot about the U.S. military, so she can be moved to the Marines or a different faction/branch if you prefer
And speaking of shit I know nothing about, even though I've watched as many crime shows as anybody else I have no idea if you can work in one state and then start working in a different state just like that, but let's go with yea
And I have love for Linden -- Veena Sud's a genius and KJ Harper's a motherfucking gift in Seven Seconds don't try me -- but she got on that plane
I was feeling like between S1 finale and S2 premiere's a good place for Mira to come into the picture but if you got a different idea, then lmk
