He never got the chance to be raised by his grandfather, and definitely not his parents, a Afrikaner couple scooped him up on a whim in a semi-illegal move whisking him off to another country at a impressionable age. He was just as much a sponge soaking up everything around him not even a decade later when they dropped him. Ever since then, before those mercenaries even recruited and trained him, he's believed he's cursed, through and through.
He hasn't learned the language his parents and grandparents spoke yet when his superiors let him know the world's about to end -- least over there -- it's time to go back. Being back where his family's from got him all over the place but he completed the job anyways. He's trying to get out of the country immediately after taking out his mark before the whole country goes up in flames when the building's elevator gets stuck. He considers trying to bust out of it in the middle of all the chaos undoubtedly going on outside when he really takes a look at the woman in here with him.
Stuck in an elevator, two different types of volatile, two different languages. Everybody fears them but nobody knows them; they decide somebody else should know them even if that somebody can't understand a word they're saying.
Howard Charles as Kwame Marsh
A LITTLE EXTRA : I'm blown I couldn't get a GIF of Nile yet s/o @kikilaynedaily on Tumblr for the KiKi GIF though! And @netflix on Giphy for the one of Howard's evil ass in Top Boy
Btw I know I stay putting off reading The Old Guard mostly b/c I stay hearing they didn't get Nile right but if you di read feel free to add as much of her history -- however the little the book gives -- as you like!!
And I meant for this to take place after the movie y3ni discovering who she is and fighting to survive's a whirlwind for her so she takes a little sabbatical after the events of the movie take place since she needs some time to herself and everything and that's when she runs into this man's crazy/eccentric ass BUT you can tweak it as you like so it takes place before she ever finds out and she ends up knowing him first and he's closest to her or it could even take place at some point during the movie's story
You can decide wherever they're at whether that's London, Chaguanas, NY, Scarborough, Toronto, etc long as it aint a city in South Africa
And it's up to you how much or how little the apocalyptic/world war shit factors in since they are getting out of that elevator eventually
