Ismael Cruz Cordova as Efraín Inaros
No matter how much he hates being around people and the petty, self-loathing messes they call minds, he's worked to the bone so he can be the model L; not too powerful but powerful enough, obedient and restrained. He's tired. He was tired when Cynthia Eris chose him to be her final project's makeshift mission control. His assignment was to communicate back to ErisCorp everything going on with one of their vessels while it's deep in the unknown, and afterwards he'd get a free ride on a colony ship so he'd never have to hear or feel anybody ever again. He was never told what the point was, where that vessel was going or what would happen when it got there, but at some point along the way he just felt everything. He couldn't make sense of it and it broke him. His abilities haven't worked the same since, ErisCorp cleaned up as much of the incident as they could for the public eye and they made sure to tell him that it was a failure. When evidence of alien life appears he feels it and it's exactly where that ship was lost, where that failure turned him from tired to broken. It might be a rough draft, but he has a plan. He's getting out there to the Volcryn, no matter how many grown children he has to be in a enclosed space with -- least he only has to listen a little longer. He starts to realize he might be out here for a entirely different reason when he discovers the only mind in his life he can't get enough of, and somebody who's honest about who she is and constantly facing shit nobody else's acknowledging. When the rest of Mel's team dies and they're facing the Volcryn, he has to finally decide if he cares what happens to the Nightflyer or even himself. He has to decide if he wants her to wake him up to this new world.
A GOOD BIT EXTRA : So Effy is similar to Thale, he's older don't mean he's well-adjusted just he handles himself and his abilities different
Mel presents a different option, she knows how to get shit done unlike most on the Nightflyer, she gets what she wants, and still she has all her genuine thoughts and it's beyond refreshing to him, she's guileless in the opposite ways everybody else is -- feeling what she's feeling after decades of no light? He can't get enough of being around her and her brain -- which is easy b/c nobody else really stays around her and hard b/c she's facing off with the Volcryn which is fucking with his brain
Speaking of Melantha coming to the Volcryn, Karl is not he's dead, Agatha is too ofc thank fuck, you can decide if Roy, Lommie, Rowan and/or Thale survives don't seem likely for them 2 though
h and speaking of Melantha FULLSTOP Ok Effy does find out about her and Cynthia and Roy and ofc he cares about how it fucked her up but he sees it as something fucked up she survived (emotionally/mentally) and she can move past (maybe even with his help f she wants it) he's not treating her like a leper or some shit and he's not awkward about it, he's not seeing her differently maybe that's b/c he can hear what's going on inside and knows she's still her amazing self Idk this is all hard as shit to explain
You can start the fic with the pilot or if Mel and Effy meet before the pilot, then you can start from there, or if you want it to be a fic with your own storyline you can start from the finale
I was feeling like meeting the Volcryn would be a little of (Lex in) AVP, a little of the 1 book in Southern Reach and a little of The Expanse series, but if you got some other ideas/inspiration go with that!
