Don didn't know what he was getting into; he was expecting a has-been getting sloppy out where nobody could find him and/or some typical white colonize-the-jungle fuckshit. Maybe he even had another family out there now. He didn't see this depressingass documentary turning into one of those ghost-hunting shows coming. And he definitely didn't expect to find the girl of his figurative dreams in the middle of all this mess or to find out she might possibly be psychic. Most of the time, he's just begging the rest of the team to stop searching after dark and to get back to the Valenzuelas ship, and of course hoping Jahel can't read his mind
LITTLE EXTRA: So you got a lot of options for how Dante could fit into the plot he could have a history with the Cole family, he could be found towards the end of the season with Emmett, he could mysteriously pop up before the ship leaves at the docks in the pilot ep, etc
