Chapter 22 Dinner

Calum POV

Today is the last day of school and  I'm so ready for summer. Along with it being the last day Ashton is coming over for dinner and I'm excited but also really nervous. Sure he's met my mom and Mali but that was like once since I wasn't out yet  I didn't show him off to my family but here we are. 

School gets out early today and all the seniors are gone since graduation was last week.  The final bell signaling days end  I leave class and go into the hall to go clear out my locker. " Dinner tonight still on?" Ashton asks leaning on the locker next to me. " Yeah,  um  Michael and Luke can come too I feel like it was rude not to invite them." I  busy myself by making a stack of my textbook to take back to the library. " No Cal it's ok Luke is hanging out with his student council friends and Michael is probably playing video games. I want this to be just us for once." He says tilting the locker door back so he can see my expression. " Ok, does six work?"

"Perfect."

"Your eye looks better." I   lift up the pile of books with a grunt and shut my locker. " Thanks hurts less."  He smiles a little tightening the sling around his neck. "Care to walk me to the library?" I smile. " Anything for you prince charming." Ash giggles putting his good arm around my shoulders. "Should I wear something nice or my usual? I want to impress your family."  Ash says.  "Whatever is comfortable for you." I lower my voice as we walk into the library. " I'll wait outside." He whispers pulling away from me. I go up to the check-in desk where a line has formed.  "Hey mute." I  glance behind me my eyes landing on the boy from my lit class his face in a sneer. " I just saw you talking to your stupid boyfriend why are you quite now?" I blink too nervous to speak. " I'll knock all your books over if you don't talk." He says. I tighten my grip on the books. "Speak weirdo." "What do you want!" I snap. "You sound so weird."  I turn around and turn my books in. "Looks like you have a fine."

"Why? These are all my books." I raise my eyebrows. " Looks like you owe twenty  dollars." The librarian says looking over her glasses at me. " I.." I  take my backpack off and feel around for my wallet to my dismay I only find four dollars, Awesome. "I'm so s- sorry I don't have enough but I can go-" " Payment is due now." The librarian drawls I glance behind me to see the line behind me is growing and I can feel my body tensing up.  "Pay you're fine mute boy!" The kid snaps. I can't find the words when I feel a light tap on my shoulder and turn to see Luke he half smiles and holds out twenty dollars. 

" I saw you struggling so I figured I'd help out."  I'm speechless and nod excitedly. I take the money and hand it to the librarian who looks fed up.   I put my backpack on and scurry out the door and look around the hall and look around for Ash, I see him leaning against the wall reading a text.  "I'm all done." "Oh, that was quick." He comments looking up a smile on his face. Damn, he's so cute when he smiles.  "Hi, lovebirds,"  Luke says standing next to me.  "Oh Luke I'm going over Calum's for dinner tonight I think I told you but just wanted you to know." He says as we go down the stairs. " That's fine I think my parents are going on a date tonight anyway and I'll be at friends so."

"Your parents go on dates?" I ask surprised.  Luke nods.  "Yeah every Wednesday night, it's their time together I guess." We all exit the school and go out to the lot. 

"That sounds nice." Ash says. I nod and clear my throat awkwardly before speaking, " Thanks, Luke for saving my ass," I say gratefully. "What did Luke do?" Ash asks curiously. " I owed a fine on my textbooks and didn't have money but  this guy swooped in and saved the day."  "It was nothing I saw the guy in line behind you being mean to you and  everything  so it's the least I could do." He  unlocks his car " I'll see you at home Ash,  bye Calum I would say have a good  summer but I'm going to see you." He waves before getting into his car. "I'll see you tonight babe," Ash says kissing my cheek briefly. " Do you have a ride home?"
