A hidden survival

Chapter 33

Where are you? Akane thought as she ran round the building. A hand grabs hold of her. She turned and saw two concern boys looking at her in worry. Yuu sighed, "This building is too big. It'll take too long to find her." Mika asked, "She must've disappeared with a reason. Akane, try to recall, anything she said." She sniffs and calms herself. Closing her eyes, she tries to replay every single sentences they exchanged earlier today.

"You hungry? Lets go back and eat, we'll go see the stars afterwards, alright?"

She snapped opened her eyes, stars! She looked at her childhood friends and blurted out, "She must be watching the stars!" The two boys eyed each other, Yuu immediately said, "The rooftop."

The three of them rushed up to the rooftop, however, the entrance was locked. Knowing it is a futile effort, Akane still tried to twist and pull the handle. Mika patted her head, "Akane, let me do it." Her vision was blurred by tears, it's my fault, I should have remembered that promise. She backs away from the door. Mika swiftly gave a side kick, and the door busted opened, no effort.

They were sobs coming from a corner, Akane recognized it. She rushed towards the sound. "Yuri!" She called out in excitement and relieved. The girl glanced up, "Akane!" She stood up and throw herself into Akane's arms.

Akane patted her back, "I'm so sorry. It's all my fault." The toddler bawled louder than just now. "I'm sorry. I just missed mummy so I come to see the stars... But then, the door got locked and I couldn't get out and... And..." She tried to explain but she was in shock. Akane touched her cold hands, she is all alone in the rooftop, in the cold night. She held her hands over Yuri's. With tears still streaming, she smiled and said, "I know. It's okay to miss mummy. You're not wrong. I'm the one who is wrong... I'm sorry."

Yuu said softly, "The rooftop is never locked. Who could've done it?" Mika frowned at this statement, "What is their purpose?"

Akane wiped away her tears, "Next time, you have to bring me along too. I also like to see your mother." Yuri sniffed and nodded. Worried that the coldness get little Yuri sick, she carried her, "Let's go for today. We'll come here again soon." Yuri nodded in agreement as they exited the rooftop and to the basement, with Yuu and Mika following close behind.
