A hidden survival

Chapter 48

The Noble Vampire saw it at the far end. His mouth tilted upwards, then downwards. "Don't blame me Akane. You're the one who go back on our contract." He said as he grabbed Yuri, ready to suck her blood. However, he stopped midway. Ferid frowned, and tried holding onto Yuri, an image of Hana flashed across his mind. He steps back, unable to comprehend what happened. Just then he recalled:

"I'll do as you say. But you have to let go of Yuri even if I fail." She requested. The vampire thought for a while, then cruelly turned away, the toddler at his hand. "I'll free her only after you're done with your work, but if you can't kill Shinoa, you can use your life in return of hers."

When she said that, her eyes were glowing red, she casted a spell on him. To free Yuri in exchange for her life and the only way to do it, was through his weakness, Hana. Ferid smiled in amusement. You're indeed Hana's student. He thought.

"Akane..." Yuu called her repeatedly since she was brought back with them. He thought he had found her, she was just there, but he lost her again. He held onto her hand and plead for her to wake up. Yet there was no response...

Mika was further away, he looked at his family who laid peacefully on bed. She was the one who takes care of all the children, being their "mother", he failed to protect her once, and now... he failed to again.

Akane laid motionlessly on the bed, just like a sleeping beauty. There was no reaction, no expression, no colour of life in her. To make matters worse, there was nothing they could do to help her... That makes Yuu and Mika even more frustrated.

Yuu could feel Akane's body getting colder each passing day. He fears that one day, her body becomes completely frozen.

"Yuu..." Mika placed his hand on his shoulder. "Time to get some rest." He said in a comforting tone. Yuu sighed and exited the room. Mika stared closely at the pale witch, "please wake up soon..." He said before exiting the room along with Yuu.

"Akane, aren't you here too early?" Akane turned and saw her mentor smiling at her. Akane watched as she walked closer. Am I dead? She asked herself. Hana laughed, "not quite, but you might be if you keep staying here." Akane glanced around the 'place' she was staying at. It's all so white. Not dark. Hana stepped a little closer, "don't you have a wish? Didn't you survived all these years to fulfill it?" Those questions set Akane thinking why she was here in the first place. She laughed at herself silently. "I wasn't strong enough... Be it 6 years ago or right now. So, I can't fulfill this dream." She said with a tone, so vulnerable.
