Chapter 45

"Wars between human and vampire. Then wars between witch and witch hunters. Now, is it the war between witch and human?" Yuu finally said after a long silence. Mika closed his eyes, it took a while before he opened them again and said, "whose side will you be on?" Yuu walked away, "Either way I am not going to get you or Akane hurt." Mika smiled, "I know you won't."

The hunger for food woke Akane up from her uncomfortable slumber. Yet it was the only thing to do. "Finally up?" The sarcastic voice she hated so much was appeared. She ignored the comment and continued to sit up, staring into nothing. As if she was completely soulless. "I've got someone you'd like to meet." Akane looked up and saw a familiar face. "Ferid Bathory! I'll kill you!" She shouted out as if she was a mad person. He laughed in triumph. "This little witch is no use for me. All I need her for, is to control you."

Akane stayed silent and glanced at the unconscious child. The vampire brought a knife by the side of the girl's neck, pressing on slowly. Akane watched in anger until a blood line starts to produce."What do you want?" She finally said in defeat. He smiled, "For a start, how about... Getting rid of Shinoa?" Akane frowned, "I can't, they won't let me live, there's no way I can get to Shinoa." He gave a devilish smile as he calmly stated, "Well then... I guess this little one will die in her place then." His voice shows no mercy, no sadness, no empathy. Plain. As if it was the most natural thing for him to do. Akane pulled herself toward him, but she was restricted by the chains. "Why Shinoa?" He looked away, "you don't have to know."

Akane kept quiet. He is serious about letting Yuri die if she does not do as he said. She glared at him, her eyes shooting daggers. "Unchain me." She demanded. Ferid grinned and shook his head, "what's your answer then?" He knows, yet he wants her to say it. In her heart, she mcoked herself. You're pathetic, Akane.... "I'll do as you say. But you have to let go of Yuri even if I fail." She requested. The vampire thought for a while, then cruelly turned away, the toddler at his hand. "I'll free her only after you're done with your work, but if you can't kill Shinoa, you can use your life in return of hers. I'll kill her either way." He slashed the chains off and disappeared along with the little girl. Akane fell to her knees once again.

"Teacher, looks like you're wrong. I can never become a guardian to those young ones." Hope shattered like fragile glass into a million pieces that cannot be pieced together again.
