A hidden survival

Chapter 43

"Akane!" Yuu and Mika rushed forward, squeezing along with the crowd. Akane slowly stood up, everyone shifts back, out of shock. She turned to face them, her eyes had lost the usual hazel colour, it became completely red. She lost her warmth and was glaring coldly at those around her.

"Akane..." She took out her staff and chanted loudly as if she was declaring something. The dark clouds gathered around, covering every bits of the sunlight. Lightning strikes and thunder roared. She picked her first aim, flames shoots through her wooden staff, towards a human. Yuu immediately stepped up and blocked it. "Shit!" He cursed as the fire was burning stronger than he imagined. The person being targeted shouted, "she's a witch too! She's going to kill us all!" Mika rushed to help out Yuu.

"They're going after her, we need to snap her out of it." Mika warned. Yuu nodded and the both of them move out of the way. A man raised his knife and prepared to stab Akane in the back. Mika blocked the knife and pushed him away. Yuu held onto Akane, "Stop destroying!" He said. Akane's pushed him away and pulled out his sword, aiming to stab one of the soldier who shot the witches. The soldier dodged the first slash, but he did not manage to escape the second one.

When Akane felt that she had stabbed a person, she looked up. Standing in front of her was Mika. Akane eyes widened in shock. She saw the blood of her childhood friend slowly sliding off the sword which she was holding. Initially, a drop of tears, followed by another one until she was completely crying. Her eyes slowly turned back to the usual hazel warm one. Yuu rushed forward and held onto Mika.

The witch hunter smirked and ran for Akane. He planned on slashing her dead. However, Yuu and Mika jumped in, shielding her from him. Out of shock, he shifts back. "We're taking back the rest of the witch." Mika said, standing effortlessly. The witch hunter laughed, "you can always try, vampire." He challenged confidently. An arrow hit the ground and destroyed the ropes that is used to tie the witches.

Shinoa jumped out of the crowd and point her weapon at the main threat. He laughed, "Have you forgotten how the witches cursed your sister?" Shinoa frowned, "Uncle..." The trio looked at them in shock. Uncle? The witch hunter is... Her uncle? Akane stared at them.

"Stop! Let him take the witch." This time, it is a familiar voice to both Yuu and Shinoa. They turned and saw Guren. "Guren?" Yuu said in disbelief. He stood in front of Shinoa, "let him take the witch." He repeated. Shinoa shook her head, "no, I promise to save them." Guren glared at her, "save who? Have you forgotten? Why Mahiru died?" Shinoa stepped back and dropped her weapon.
