Chapter 18 Could The Traitor Be You

For the past few weeks Bowser and Luigi had been seeing each other for a good amount of time, so much time Mario was becoming a tad suspicious. Luigi had been leaving the house, sometimes sneaking out the house, and Mario wanted to know what was going on.

Luigi walked around the outskirts of his house in the pitch black of night until he found his window. He had forgot to keep his lights on to find it easily since he was such in a hurry to see Bowser. "Damn it I can't see a thing", Luigi sighed. He found his window and creaked it open, wide enough for him to fit through. He made it safe and sound in his room but his lights quickly flicked on. Luigi gulped and turned around. There standing in by his door was Mario. "H-Hey bro", Luigi stuttered. Mario only glared at Luigi raising one brow. Luigi was afraid to give Mario eye contact because he knew how disappointed he was. "Why are you sneaking around", Mario asked. Luigi looked away and pouted," Nothing, I'm just walking around the mushroom kingdom". "At 3 in the morning!?", Mario said. "You be over Peach's castle all night, even weeks", Luigi yelled back. "Yeah I do, but I tell you this stuff", Mario yelled," You're sneaking out the house without my knowledge, what if something happens to you and I know nothing about it". "I can take care of myself Mario I'm not a kid", Luigi said. "But you're my Brother and I worry every day about you", Mario said choking up. Luigi looked at Mario , he didn't know that his brother was hurting because of what he was going. Mario rubbed his eye's," Ever since that day people been talking badly about you and threating you, I worry every time you leave this house that I won't see you again. Just cut it out". They both stood in silence, Luigi felt extremely bad for making his brother worry so much about him. "I'm sorry, I won't do it again". Mario walked out Luigi's room as he plopped down on his bed. (Don't worry to much Mario).

Mario sat up in his bed, he didn't really get that much sleep since he was up all night waiting for Luigi to come. (What are you up too). Mario rolled out of bed to get ready to head out to the castle, Toadsworth had called him on the phone to cone over immediately. He wasn't sure why but, the way Toadsworth said it, it sounded serious. It was getting a tad chilly out due to the change in seasons so Mario wore his thick fluffy red hoodie, his signature blue overalls
And his lucky red cap. "Brrr its cold", Mario said. He walked out the room to see Luigi sitting on the couch watching TV while eating Cereal wrapped up in a blanket. "Why didn't you turn the heat on", Mario asked. "You don't like me touching the thermostat", Luigi said. Mario chuckled and turned up the heat. "Where are you off to", Luigi asked. "Toadsworth wanted to see me, so it should be quick", Mario said putting his gloves on. "Okey dokey", Luigi said going back to his cereal. Mario walked out into the cold and shivering a bit. "Its September, it shouldn't be this cold already", Mario mumbled. He crouched down to tie his boots tightly and off to see Toadsworth he went.

Mario dispirite not liking the cold really liked the fall season. The leaves turned a pretty shade of red he he just simply adored. Taking in the scenery he began to think about what Toadsworth wants with him. He never heard him get so stern with him. (Maybe he got a lead on the whole spy thing). Recently it turns out that the spy has been progressively taking more and more information from the mushroom kingdom. Mario made it to the entrance of the castle and was greeted by everyone he walked by. Everyone greeting Mario always put him in a good mood, the people here are so nice. Mario walked in Toadsworth's office and took a seat in front of his desk. "Morning", Mario said. "Oh..Morning", Toadsworth replied. Mario could instantly tell something was bothering him. "You seem bothered, is it about what you called me for?", Mario asked. Toadsworth nodded and almost looked hesitant to speak what was on his mind. "Promise me something first-", Toadsworth asked. Mario stared at him for a moment, he's never seen him this serious. "- Keep what I'm about to tell you to yourself, and Don't be upset with me". "I Promise", Mario said. Toadsworth picked up a file and pulled a couple pictures from them. "These pictures were taken recently, they show someone constantly coming and going from Bowser's Castle", Toadsworth said. He laid the picuters face down in front of Mario. "Flip them over when you're ready", Toadsworth said. Mario hesitantly place his hand on one of the pictures and gulped slowly turning the picture over.

Mario eyes widen as he dropped the picture in his hand back on the table. He frantically began to flip each image all with the same person. "No....it can't be", Mario said. "We think it may be-". "Shhhh don't say it", Mario demanded. Toadsworth sat across from Mario as he constantly kept looking over the photos shaking. He placed all the pictures face down and kept one in this hand. "You can have it", Toadsworth said. Toadsworth tried to touch Mario's shoulder for comfort, but Mario jerked his body out the way. "I-I need time", Mario said. Mario quickly walked out of Toadsworth's office walking swiftly while running his hands through his hair. Mario started to head home ignoring all the waves and greeting he received on the way. (No no no). Mario walked in his front door kicking off his boots and placing his hat on a hook. he saw Luigi in the same spot from where he left watching TV. Luigi looked back at Mario and smiled. "Hey Mario that reality show you like is on", Luigi said. Mario just stared blankly at Luigi lost in thought. Luigi looked at him confused," Mario are you okay?", He asked waving his hand at his face. Mario sighed," L-Luigi". Luigi looked backed at Mario worried about what was going on". "You wouldn't, y'know keep something from me, right, besides the Daisy thing that is", Mario asked. Luigi looked worried and gave Mario a sad smile," Of course not Mario, why would I do that- Is something the matter". "Oh nono I just was talking with Toadsworth about something that's all, its not important", Mario replied. "Let's watch the show together", Luigi asked. Mario smiled and  sat next to his brother watching the show. Mario would occasionally look at Luigi. (Are you hiding something).
