Johnny rang again the next day, Jac decided to bite the bullet and speak to him
Hi it's me Johnny said
Hello
How's the weather, we've been snowed in but I think I'll be able to get Emma back tomorrow
Ok
Listen Jac I want you to come to the wedding
What? No she said forcefully
I think it's important for Emma
Well I think it's weird. I don't want to , I'm not doing it
It's just Emma wants you there, wants mummy and Daddy and Daddy's girlfriend to be friends
Jac snorted her derision
Will you at least think about it otherwise she'll be stuck with my mother all day
Fine I'll think about it
Jac hung up and looked at her phone
"Bloody cheek"
It did not come as a surprise to her that the person she wanted to moan about this to was Fletch. She couldn't think of a single time when she'd needed him that he hadn't been there.
She set off for work on foot. The snow was still thick on the ground and the roads were treacherous but the sun was shining, the sky clear crisp blue. She took a deep breath in through her nose.A rare feeling of contentment washed over her until she remembered her conversation with Johnny
She was still muttering under her breath as she got to the hospital "who does he think he is? Friends indeed we weren't friends even when we were together. Being paraded round as the lonely spinster mother of his child. Babysitter for the day"
"Morning sunshine" Fletch said blocking her path. She walked straight into him
"Ooof" he said dramatically
"What? Oh sorry, I was miles away"
"Clearly. Anywhere nice?" He said pressing the lift button
"Not really" she said softly "Why don't you make me a coffee, come to my office and I'll tell you all about it"
"Ok your highness I'll make you a coffee. Just because it's you" he stole a kiss as they stepped into the empty lift
Jac smiled despite herself
"Get away from me"
Fletch took an exaggerated step to the other side of the lift and grinned back at her
"Idiot" she laughed
"That's what I was after, a laugh from Naylor"
They walked into the ward gently ribbing each other
"Foetus and Fontleroy -got time to stand about chatting. Two cases each, present to me in my office in 15 minutes"
The two junior Doctors just looked at her
"Well go on then" she snapped and rolled her eyes
She was just taking her coat off when Fletch came in with two coffees.
"You're on fire this morning Jac"
"Oh those two? Toughens them up Fletch"
"Whatever you say. I'm glad I get to see the other side of you"
"Well you might want to steer clear of me today unless you fancy being in the firing line"
"I can take it. What's put you in this wonderful mood?"
"Johnny wants me to go to his wedding"
"That would be super awkward"
"I know, any normal person would think that"
"What did you say?"
"Well he played the Emma wants us all to be friends card and if I don't go Emma will be stuck with his mother all day who quite frankly is a witch so I told him I'd think about it"
"Oh right. I mean I could go with you if you wanted me to if you decide to go"
She faced him and took both his hands in hers
"I'm definitely not going if you don't come too"
Fletch gave her the familiar suspicious look that he always gave her when she was nice to him and brought her hands to his lips and kissed her knuckles
"Let me know what you decide sweetheart. I'll see you later"
"Ok see you"
Jac's gaze followed him out the door
"God I love him so much" she said to herself
