The next morning, luckily it was a Sunday, Jac went in to Evie's room with water and paracetamol.
"How you feeling?"Jac asked
"Mortified and I have a headache"
"A Here take these" Jac handed her the glass and tablets
"What did dad say?"
"Well I reminded him that he'd been a teenager once and had probably done much worse"
Evie laughed  "thank you so much for last night. I feel so silly, I was just so upset about Joel"
"I know hun but at the risk of sounding about 80 years old- this time next year you probably won't even remember his name and you're too good for him anyway if he can go off with someone else when he could have you"
Evie smiled "we all love having you as part of this family you know"
"And I love being part of it. You're all mad though" Jac added before things got so soppy that she embarrassed herself by crying.
"Are you up to breakfast?"
"I think I could manage toast. I'll get up now"
"Ok" Jac went to get up when Evie pulled her into a hug. Jac was taken aback. What was it with this family and their easy affection, she hugged Evie back. This sense of belonging and being loved was completely alien to her up until the day she met Fletch.
"Ooh Somebody's awake" Evie said feeling baby Fletcher wriggling about
"He is" Jac laughed
"I am happy for you you know despite what my initial reaction was"
"Come on you need to come and face the music"
"Urgh"
"I'll be right behind you"
Developing a connection with Evie like this was all she had ever wanted from her own mother
Downstairs in the kitchen Fletch was conducting the breakfast operation
"Hi" Evie said nervously. He turned round
"Hi you two or should I say you three" he then wordlessly went over to Evie and enveloped her in a famous Fletcher hug
Jac remembered seeing him do that on the ward on the day she'd pushed him away after kissing him. Her heart had melted and it made her question her decision. Seeing them again today her heart melted a little more. It was frightening how much she loved this man.
"Tea?" He addressed Jac
"Please and toast if there's any going"
"Evie?"
"Same please Dad"
Evie caught Jac's eye who just smiled at her
A short while later Jac was just getting dressed when Fletch came into the bedroom
"Hey" he said
"Hi. Nicely handled down there Dad"
"Well that was only because of how amazing you were yesterday"
"Yeah I am pretty awesome"
"And so modest"
"You realise we're going to have to do this another 5 times don't you?"
"Oh the joys of parenthood. It's so much better having you around Jac. My whole life is better with you in it"
Jac relished the feeling of belonging
"Oh shut up Fletcher and put my socks on for me. I haven't seen my feet for weeks"
Fletch chuckled and knelt down in front of her gently stroking her legs before putting her socks on.
"You are insanely sexy Naylor"
Jac moaned softly as he kissed her neck tenderly.
"Stop it, everyone's up and about"
"Spoil sport"
"When are you going to stop work " he said helping her up off the bed
"Until I drop I think"
"You really are just trying to kill me with worry"
"Fletch" she took both his hands "I am actually quite an intelligent woman i won't do anything to harm baby Fletcher"
He eyed her suspiciously "Hmm just take it easy ok?"
"Ok" she said in a stupid sarcastic voice which just made him chuckle
