Today is the first day back to school after our Christmas break. There were rumors floating around that there was going to be a bunch of new students coming today. This could be a nice change of pace.
My name is Lila James and I am 13 years old. I live with my Aunt Beth, my fathers sister. I have lived with her as long as I can remember.
I rolled out of bed so I could get ready. I really don't wanna go to school today. But I have to. I put on a pair of jeans and a random band shirt. After I brushed my teeth and put my shoes then went downstairs. Beth was at the stove cooking something.
"Thanks for cooking but I don't have time this morning." I grabbed my slide phone from it's charger and my house key then put them both in my back pack. Yes I have a slide phone. Don't hate.
"You think it's for you?" She said jokingly. I rolled my eyes and went to the door. "I put your lunch in your bag. Have fun, love you!" She called behind me.
"I love you too!" I said back. I walked down the drive way and waited for the bus. When it came I put my ear buds in and turned my MP3 player on. I don't have many friends so music is an essential. I sat in the back and stared out the window at the beautiful scenery. We reached another stop and I looked at the kids standing there. They stood in a crowd at the end of a long long road. There was at least a dozen maybe more of them waiting. They all tried to squeeze on. One girl in particular made eye contact with me. She made her way back and sat next to me. I took out an ear bud.
"Hi I'm Jane Williams. I'm new." She said with a smile.
"I'm Lila James. Welcome to Woodrow Junior High." We made polite small talk before we got to school. I directed her and the whole group to the office. I also noticed a new office worker as well. I looked at her schedule and saw we have about seven classes together. Seven! Science, Social Studies, P.E, Lunch, Math and, Language Arts. Her first hour is Computer Concepts while mine is Exploring Technology. We have the same study hall hours but different teachers. I decide to stick near her. It just felt right.

When the bell rang after first hour, I raced to Science. I wanted to get Mrs. Lisa to put her next to me. I sit at a table full of guys that annoy me. They figure out the things I don't like and do that thing over and over. I managed to talk Mr. Lisa into it. I sat and waited for her get here. When she did I called her to sit with me. The minute she sat down, we began talking. Then the other guys showed up.
"Wow Lila finally became nice?" Jay laughed throwing his books on the table. I rolled my eyes and ignored them. They don't bully me by any means. We just go back and forth. A lot. The whole class thinks its funny though so I deal with it.
"Naw she probably just realised shes gay." Ben sat across from me.
"At least I'd have the guts to admit it unlike you." I retorted.
"Did just admit your were gay?!" Ryland sat next to Jay. I hate these tables. They are all groups of 4 with an extra horizontal table at the end of them that seat two.
"No. I didn't but I successfully exposed him." Then someone across the room yelled 'expose him'. I rolled my eyes and turned back to Jane.
"Keep rolling your eyes. Maybe you'll finally find your brain." Jay smirked at his old joke.
"At least I'd find one." Everyone the table started to laugh even Jay.
"Touché." Ben nodded. I went back to talking with Jane until class started. We talked about hanging out after school. Maybe we could.

School went a bit smoother after second period. We actually did end up making plans. Since Beth has to work late tonight I can go to her place for a bit. She said her brother is going to come and pick us up. From what Jane said he's really nice. I can't wait to meet her family. She talked them up like the greatest thing in the world. I had always wished for a family like that.
"So when will he get here?" I asked as we walked to her locker. We stopped at mine first because it was closer to our Language Arts class.
"He's here now." But she still walked at normal pace.
"How do you know?" I asked curiously.
"He said that he would be here 10 minutes before school got out to make sure he wouldn't miss me." We got to her locker and took her sweet time.
"Hurry up woman!" I rushed. " We wont wanna keep the chauffeur waiting." She laughed a little but hurried up. She finally slammed her locker shut and we went out the back of the school. She looked around. Then she pointed in the direction of an all black SUV. There was someone sitting on the hood playing on his phone. The wind blows and I can smell something like flowers and baby powder. I can't really explain it. He looked up.

We made eyes contact and I suddenly couldn't hear anything around me. It feels as like the whole world stopped. I nudged Jane.
"Is that your brother?" I whispered. She stopped and they made eye contact. Her eyes clouded over and she stilled. He did the same. I prodded her again and she snapped out of it.
"Yeah. Why do you wanna know?" We started walking again.
"No reason." She smirked knowingly. This afternoon should be good.
