The Young Mate

Chapter 25

Lila

Today is Friday. My birthday is Sunday. I can't believe that I'm going to be 14. Another year without my parents and my first year without Beth.

"Hey what are you thinking about?" Janes asked. We were walking home from school.

"My birthday." She smiled real big.

"Are you excited?" I frowned. Her smile fell.

"I mean I am but I just miss him." She put her arm around my shoulders.

"I miss him too. He's my best friend." I feigned hurt.

"And what am I?" She laughed.

"Your my sister. Theres a difference." We held hands as we walked into the apartment building. Since Jayden is like kinda rich he lives on the top floor. He has only has two bedrooms so he's been sleeping on the couch. We walked in the front door and he was on the couch. Sleeping. I swear all he does is sleep.

"Hey there sleepy head." I called out while putting my bag down. He flipped me off and rolled to the other side.

"That's not very nice." Jane leaned on the back of the couch and poked his face.

"Let me sleep." He whined and then he mumbled woman under his breath.

"Get up." I said firmly. His eyes popped open and instead of being light greenish they were bright icy blue.

"I'm sorry luna." His wolf quickly stood and bowed his head.

"Don't call me that. I'm not Luna just yet." He looked up and smiled. "I don't believe we've met. You are?"

"Everett." One eye went back to Jayden. "He wants to be back. Nice meeting you." Then they were both light again.

 "He is such a kiss ass." He rubbed his eyes. "He'll probably come out everything you demand something." Me and Jane gave each other an evil look. "Oh no. I'm nor going to be your servant."

"Whatever you say." I smirked. We watched Tv then Jayden spoke up again.

"Do y'all want pizza cause that sounds good." Jane and I both nodded. He called in an order and we all decided to play Mario Kart. The doorbell rang and I look at the clock. It's only been 10 minutes? "Lila get the pizza. Theres money on the counter." I rolled my eyes.

"You get it. I don't like talking to strangers."

"Im busy." He said focusing on the Tv.

"Jane you get it. Your social." I nudged her.

"No I'm kicking Jayden's butt." She laughed when she threw him off course. The bell again. I dragged myself off the couch and grabbed the money. I kept my head down and asked how much.

"$15." That voice . I looked up and saw my mate but he was wearing sunglasses and a backwards hat. He looked like a douche. I grabbed the pizza and put it one the counter and ran to jump on him. "Hi cherry." He laughed. I wrapped my legs around is waist and buried my head in his neck.

"I missed you." I sobbed. I didn't even realize I was crying. He tried to put me down but I wouldn't let go.

"I haven't slept in a few days honey. Can I at least get some sleep?" He joked. After a few minutes I agreed to let go. I was beside myself when I did. I let him go and I may have pouted on the couch. But after about 45 minutes a messy haired Landon came out of the room I was staying in. Without a word he threw me over his shoulder and Jane laughed as he carried me away.

"Can't sleep alone?" I joked. He shoved me under the covers.

"I haven't seen you in a month. Oliver was cussing me out the second I let you go." He said groggily. I giggle and he climbed under the blanket with me. I was still a little cold so I out my hands on his bare skin. For some reason wolves are super warm. He ended up taking his shirt off. I snuggled against his chest and fell asleep with a smile on my face.

I woke up again that night. My throat was uber dry so I drank that good night water that was on my side table. I accidentally dropped some and Landon's face and he woke up. He rubbed his eyes and looked up at me. 

"What are you doing?" He asked sitting up.

"I'm thirsty." He chuckled and grabbed the bottle from my hands and took a drink.

"Since your up I need to tell you something." I crossed my legs and listened. "I hope you don't get mad." I rolled my eyes. "Since we want to celebrate your birthday in a big way we are going to use it as a diversion to lure the hunters in." I don't think I have ever gotten so angry in such a short time.

"Are you kidding me?" His face turned to confusion.

"What?"

"It's my birthday. Me. And we are going to use it to lure in people who want to kill me and you and everyone else. Did you even plan the party for me?" My voice slowly got louder.

"Yes we did. But why don't you think of others? We lost a wolf to one of those murderous bastards." His voice stayed calm

"Can't it wait until next weekend?"

"Lila if we don't stop it now the next one could be you or me or Jane. We need to stop it now." I clenched my fists.

"But-"

"God why can't you just grow up!" He screamed at me. I scooted back like he hit me. It's like he did. Then he got out of bed and walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
