Lila
As soon as the attack was over someone came to get us. It was hard to get the elevator working again but they made it possible. They moved the patients to a temporary barn they had set up for emergencies. Thank goodness we were prepared.
"What are the casualties?" I asked Landon when we were finally reunited.
"There were a lot of injuries. All easily recovered though. Only two permanent ones." He put carefully. We hugged then got to work to make sure things went smoothly before the emergency meeting. I set up extra beds in our house for the worse injured people and children with one parent each. Everyone was so shaken up though I knew no one would be sleeping in those beds.
"What are we going to do now?" I asked him when we were done situating people. He sighed and ran a hand down his tired looking face. He held his arms out for a hug before he answered.
"I have able bodied wolves with training and without training on the boarders. We need everyone right now. We should be okay for the night. We have no idea who these people are and no idea what they want." I looked up at him when he stopped talking so suddenly. "Well scratch that. They have something against you."
"If I would have left after the first attack then none of this would have happened." I mumbled feeling more tears rush to the surface.
"Cherry listen to me." I had looked back at the floor and he grabbed my face gently and made me look at him again. "If you weren't here then you would have been killed. They obviously have something against you. I would've never let you leave knowing that a group of people wants to kill you."
"I would rather me be dead then our pack have to suffer." I buried my head in his shoulder and sobbed. He just rubbed my back as I cried. I knew from the foreign tears on my hair that he was crying too.
"Your not allowed to die." He chuckled coldly and squeezed me.
"That's my decision not yours." I said straight faced. I pulled away so I could go check on everyone. They all were huddled together trying to comfort one another. Like one big family. We are a family. I gave extra blankets to those who were shivering. But I'm sure that those chills weren't form the cold. After it was late and everyone was tucked in and the warriors were ready to go, Landon and I tried to sleep. The key word is tried. We laid on our sides staring at each other in bed.
"So what are we going to do now?" I asked him even though he already brought up the question earlier.
"I've been thinking about that since it happen. I think all we can do now is hope that we can protect our people." I nodded and tried to hold my breath to keep from more tears from coming out.
"I'm so clueless. I'm not cut out for this kind of job. I should have let Jenna take over." I mumbled the last part as a joke but I can tell by the way he stiffened he took it seriously. "I'm sorry I'm trying to lighten the mood." He sighed and kissed my fore head.
"Have the searches produced any evidence?" He asked me after a while. A light bulb went off in my head.
"I never got to ask the results because of the attack." I leapt out of bed and looked at the clock. 5:55 AM. They will be switching shifts in 5 minutes. I can ask them as they come to sleep. Hopefully it will be good new for the night. I put on shorts since the sun would be rising soon. I can already feel the humidity. I heard shuffling so I knew Landon would be close on my heels.
"Slow down!" He called behind me quietly as I raced sown the steps. I got out front in time to see the shift change. It looks like half stayed in human form and half in wolf form. I caught a weary eyed Brandon before he could collapse into a bedroll on the front porch.
"Yes Luna?" He tried to keep his eyes open but I could tell that he was slipping away.
"Do we have any information on the search for cave systems and other places they can hide out at?"
"We sent out a small team that arrived shortly after the attack. It was the same group from the meeting." He eyes fluttered shut and I can tell he is about to pass out.
"Thank you." I kissed his cheek. "You can rest now." He smiled and passed out.
"You just bestowed and honor upon him." Landon made me jump form him talking so suddenly. "Usually Alpha's never ever let their mates lips touch another wolf." I rolled my eyes and stood fully. I went out to find Anthony, Brandon, Lany, Jayden, Alvin, and Jacob. Landon and I split up to find our respective people. After gathering everyone at the rubble of the hospital we decided to ask questions.
"Why are we here?" Alvin snapped. The purple bags under his eyes showed his tried state.
"This is the only place where we can talk out of ear shot of the pack." Landon snapped back. What am I thinking? Everyone is tired.
"So what did you all find when out searching?" I asked politely trying to keep the tense air under control.
"Well we searched the cave you went last attack." Anthony said with disappointment. My scar tingled. "We had high hopes because of its significance but nothing."
"Then all of the abandon houses, shacks, sheds, garages you name it, within 30 miles of town." Lany shook her head. "Nothing but a few homeless people and teenagers with drinking problems."
Do we know where Jane is?, I asked Landon threw our mind link.
No., I could hear the disappointment in his tone.
"So what about foreclosed houses and motels." Landon asked them before they could ask whet the mind link was about.
"We managed to search motels and hotels before we were told about the attack. We came back after it was over and haven't left since." Jacob yawned out. "Good Ol Alvin here was too scared to leave the pack after."
"I was not." He stood up and got in Jacobs face. "You need to shut your mouth mutt." I stepped in.
"Apologize to him." I asked nicely. He growled at me. I looked around to see who else he would be growling at. I saw the hair on Landon's' arms and neck stand up while he was about to walk to him. I put a hand on his chest. "I suggest that you stand down Alvin. Now is not the time to fight." My voice was dangerously sharp.
"Yeah well you have no room to talk about fighting. You just sat in a basement and waited for the big men to fight the big fight." He got in my face and I got in his. Then I grabbed his shirt.
"I don't know why you think I'm so weak but I will not hesitate to tear you a new ass. I was delivering a baby fir your information. You are under my control and I tell you what to do. If I need you to fight then you will do so. Understand me?" He slowly started to sit back down. I didn't loosen my grip on his shirt. He nodded. "No apologize before I loose my cool." He was about to when a branch snapped in the woods. Everyone's heads turned to the visitor. Here we go again.
